MT. AIRY NEWS by Violet Locklear On Sunday morning our church welcomed a lot of visitors. Among some were Mr. and Mrs. Kynis Maynor of Michigan who has been down visiting with family and friends for two weeks. In cluded were Rev. Glassie Locklear. also Rev. Grady Hunt who brought the morn ing message taken from Acts, 16:27-30. Subject: "What Must 1 Do To Be Saved." "For by grace are ye saved through faith." So sinner friend, all you have to do is take that step to faith. John 3: lb is all you need to believe. After seeing Rev. Hunt in l.C.U. at South eastern General Hospital this past August and seeing his condition, my heart pondered as to whether or not I would get to hear him preach and sing again. Like I had in the past. After hearing such an inspiring message Sunday I knew God had more work for him to do. We all know there is nothing impossible with God. He can do everything but fail. f The Brotherhood did the special singing Sunday, com ing out with some new songs that were really thrilling, with some new voices who recently joined them. /\ r a r i a ? uur aunaay ocnooi icsson Sunday was taught by Mrs. Lailure Locklear (our assist ant) entitled "God's Steadfast Love." How is it possible to define God's love? When the Word of God speaks of His love, it does not mean the shallow sentiment that Holly wood talks about that is rooted in self gratification and present experience. The Love of God is eternal. Not chan geable. Forgiving and Heal ing. Cleansing to the depths of the emotions and the soul. It turns the negative of today's hurting world into the positive of joy and peace. In 1st Corinthians. Chapter 13. we have a beautiful des cription of God's Love. Revival. Beginning this Sunday. Nov. 13-20. Rev. Tommy Hayes of Eure. N.C. will be speaking Monday through Friday. We want to see revival. But God gives it only when we seek for it. Hopefully it will be like our last one. Sunday School night as usual is Monday night. The pastor wants all classes along with their teachers to sit together that night. So come everyone and be with us. The pastor will be speaking at New Bethel in Clinton, N.C. this Friday night. He wants all who would love to go to be at the church at 6 p.m. He has been engaged in Revival this week at Gtfeen Pine. Rev. Bobby Dean Lock lear is their pastor. We look froward to die Blood Drive which will be held at the Fellowship Hall on Dec. 3 from 10-3. A lot of our ladies will be joining to help out in this event. As a personal note, 1 know this is a good project because 1 needed blood my self, and also my son, in order to save our lives in the SO's. Sick List We have in the hospital, Mrs. Ernestine Locklear, Mr. Reginald Strickland, and ma ny more in our community that need your prayers and visitation. I, myself stay un der the doctor's care. But I have a lot to thank God for because 1 am not confined. There will be no tears in Heaven. Tears are for down here. Though we don't always understand such things, I believe God allows them to happen. And we can trust Him always to use them in a manner which brings glory to the name of Jesus. i understand the grand father. 75 years old. has already gotten saved. What a joy to know that even the time of their grief the Lord was able to claim an eternal soul. Could it be possible that every tear we shed here on earth, a flower of joy will burst into bloom in heaven? According to the young Taylor's tes timony they can all meet him again up in Heaven. You know that will be a wonderful time when we all will be united again with our loved ones. Especially the ones we know that their leaving was not in vain. The youth of New Hope Baptist Church. Reflections byAlta Nye Qxendine by AlU Nye Oxendlne FINAL FAREWELL Fall break! Just a year since Wanda Kay and 1 - along with many many others attended a beautiful service at Galilee Baptist Chuch--our final farewell to a friend we had come to love-Mrs. Lois Carter. HER STORY When I met her. in July of 1980, "Miss Lois" eagerly shared with me-as with every new person she met?her new-found faith in God. She and I soon developed a very special Christian friendship. Then, during her last year here with loved ones and friends, she described the experience which started her on the journey of faith with her beloved Lord and Savior. It began in June of 1980 with surgeons at Southeastern General Hospital removing half of her stomach due to cancer. As she told the story to me, 1 wrote it down in her own words: "A lot of people in the churches were praying. A lot of nurses were praying. The girl in the next bed was praying. "After the operation one of the doctors walked into my room. He said: 'I've done all 1 can. If you leave this hospital, it will be a miracle!'" "I felt like the world had fallen in on me! 1 looked out the window. I got to thinking. 1 could keep the same road 1 was going. Or 1 could change. "Prayer came to my mind. 1 thought of the thief on the cross. Jesus didn't say tomor row or next week. He said: 'Today thou wilt be with me in Paradise.' ? "Then 1 started to pray. '1 didn't know how. But the words just came to me-clear. 1 asked God to forgive me. "I just said: 'Lord, save me! I'm a sinner! I said it out loud. And it felt like the heaviest load in the world was lifted off from me. "God was right there. I just went out in the spirit. They tell me 1 shouted all over that bed. "I had three bags, a needle in each arm, and a catheter. But not a-one of them was misplaced. "When 1 came to, 1 was still praising the Lord. "A nurse came over and put her arms around me and said: "'He'll never leave you, honey. He'll never leave you.'" Those of us who knew "Miss Lois" know that He never left her! In spite of her doctor's prediction that she would not survive her operation, she went back home to live with her family for over two years! About a year before her death. "Miss Lois" told me: "Sometimes when I'm down in the valley-feeling low-having pain-it gives me time to think. "I thank the Lord for pain, because if it hadn't a-been for my pain, 1 would never a-gotten saved." Over and over she told me-as well as her many other visitors-that, in spite of her pain, those last two years were the happiest years of her life. During those two years, she had the Lord with her day and night. "The only thing I regret." she said sadly, "is that I didn't start serving God when lvwas younger." She was thrilled to know that I planned, sometoday, to share her, testimony with the many readers of the Carolina Indian Voice Except for her final weeks of tart?ua pain. 1 never saw "Miss Lois" when she did not present her personal story of Christian experience to ev eryone she met-at her home, her church, the hospitals where she was treated for cancer-wberevar she hap pened to be! We love the sound of laughter, And the merriment of cheer But our hearts would lose their tenderness, If we never shed a tear Daddy, We Love You. Signed by Gladys Locklear & Children NEWS FROM EVER GREEN CHURCH by Mrs. Leacie Brooks Sunday's lesson was taken from Matthew 12:1-15. The theme was "Teaching of Christ." The subject was "The Authority of Christ." Most people heard of how Christ walked through the corn field with his disciples. They were hungry and began to pluck the ears of corn to eat. This act was in violation to the Jewish laws. When the Pharasees saw what had taken place, they considered pulling of the wheat or barley and the rubbing of the husks together to be an act of harvesting. It is so easy for people who are not living right to try to rind fault inothers. In our lesson a man had a whitheted hand. The question was asked: Is it lawful to heal on the Sabbath day? These Pharisees tried to trap Jesus. He wanted to know from them if they had one sheep and it fell in apit on the Sabbath would they not take it out. Dear readers, do we use the same scales to measure another person's actions as we do for our own actions? God has given Christ authority over all things, even the Sabbath. Sister Macie's class had the program Sunday. They did great singing. Little Emily Evans paid her birthday offering to the chur ch. Rev. Joseph Locklear prea ched a wonderful sermon taken from 11 Kings:2 using for a subjects "Ask God For What We Want." Our souls were blessed. My brother-in law, Billie, received sanctifi cation. What a great day. Don't forget our home coming day Sunday, Nov. 13. Come worship with us. We're expecting a great time in the Lord. THOUGHT FOR TODAY Do today the things need ful. Tomorrow is a day you may never see. Serve God today like it is your last day on earth. Jesus may come today. The Bible says be ye also ready for you know not when the coming of the Lord will be. Please pray for us at Ever Green. Thank you for voting for me! I promise to represent vou to the best of my abilities.
