Local students selected to attend
N.C. School of Science and Math

of Science and Mathematics,
announced today that 5 stu
dents from Robeson County
have been selected to attend
the school next fall as part of
the junior class of 224 boys
and girls.
They were selected from
844 students nominated to
attend the school in Durham.
The junior class will have
students from 75 counties in
North Carolina.

The North Carolina School
of Science and Mathematics is
the nation's first state-wide,
state-supported, residential
school for eleventh and twelf
th graders with special ability
in science and mathematics.
The four-year-old school
has received national acclaim
for its advanced academic
program and the scholastic
achievements of its students.
The current senior class of 205
students has distinguished
itself by being awarded many
scholarships and academic
prizes.
The Class of 1984 contains
55 National Merit Finalists
and 14 National Achievement
Scholarship Finalists.

A photogrpahy contest ts
being held to celebrate Amer
ica Rivers Month in June. The
sponsors of the contest are the
Lumber River Basin Com
mittee, Mary Livermore Li
brary at Pembroke State
University, and Fair Bluff
Public Library.
A total of $200 in prize
money will be awarded. The
photographs must depict the
Lumber River or its tribu
taries. Entries should be
ready for hanging and must
be prints, either color or black
and white.
The deadline for submitting
photographs is June 7. Pho
tographs may be left at the
Robeson County Public Libra
ry (9 a.m. - 9 p.m.), the Mary
Livermore Library at Pem
broke State University (8
a.m.-5 p.m.), or Scott's
Plumbing and Heating Inc. in
Fair Bluff (9 a.m.-5 p.m.).
