Resigning his post at Catawba in 1974, Oxendine embarked u?on a career in public school education, joining the administration at Hallsboro Senior High School as assistant principal and guidan ce counselor. He later was named ' principal at East Montgomery High School and recently completed a year's leave with the North Carolina State Department of Public Instruction as executive assistant for the Principals Institute. Following his work with the state department, he returned to Mont gomery County and the principalship at West Montgomery. ' He is the father of two daughters and is married to the former Debbie Hutchinson. Oxendine's brother. Dr. Joseph Oxen dine, a member of the faculty at Temple University in Philadelphia, was also an exceptional athlete at Catawba and was inducted into the Hall of Fame in 1978.
