* \ Green Grove4 Teacher of the Year9 Mrs. Inez F. Page, Kinder garten teacher, was selected "Teacher of the Year" by the Green Grove School faculty This recognition is given to one teacher per year for outstanding performance. Mrs. Page has taught a total of 34 years in Robeson County. She attended Barber Scotia College in Concord, NC where she received a Bachelor of Arts Degree in Elementary ? Education. She alio attended A & T State University and Virginia State University. Mrs. Page is married to Clyde F. Page and they reside in Rowland. They have a daughter. Patricia Ann Page, who is an educator in New York, NY, and a foster daughter, Catherine C. Outen who is a receptionist at Rosemont Doctors Ginic in Baltimore, MD. Mrs. Page is a member of the Robeson County Teachers Association, North Carolina Association of Educators, Na tional Education Association, and Green Grove Parent Teachers Association. Green Grove School proud to have Mrs. Page as a teacher. Congratulations, Mrs. Page. Teacher of the Year* at Piney Grove School Mr?. Helen Smith Mrs. Helen Smith, a third grade teacher, has been selected the 1984-85 Teacher of the Year for Piney Grove Elementary School by her co-workers. She was honored with a tea on Monday, Oct. 1, in the school cafeteria. Mrs. Debbie Britt, 1983-84 Teacher of the Year, pinned a pink corsage on Ms. Smith upon entering. Mrs. Margaret Oxendine, Assistant to Mrs. Smith, gave words of praise in relation to the classroom atmosphere and student pro gress. A song entitled "You Are Our 84 Teacher" was sung by Mrs. Deanna Lowry and Mr. James M. Hunt. Mrs. j Lowry also paid tribute to Mrs. Smith with her speech "My Friend and Colleague." Principal Grady Locklear gave remarks of praise and presented Mrs. Smith with a plaque in behalf of the ywmmww?wMMmwiwi faculty ana staff. Stacy Locklear, the honoree's brother, gave an acrostic, using the name HELEN. Mrs. Smith introduced her family members who were in attendance. They were her father, Thurman Locklear; brothers, Stacy and William Locklear; a sister. Hazel Hunt; and Mrs. Smith's daughter, Shelena Gwen. Also in attendance was a family friend, Mrs. Lucy Belle Brooks. At this time the family presented her with six red roses. Also a floral arrangement was given Mrs. Smith by her assistant and students. Miss Betty McNeil and Ms. Betty Brooks invited everyone to a very attractive and delicious refreshment table. Mrs. Smith is a graduate of Pembroke State University and has held her teaching position at Piney Grove for twenty-two years. She is also a member of the NCAE and NEA. When asked her philosophy of teaching, Mrs. Smith replied, "1 consider teaching one of the most important professions a person can pursue. I also consider each child as a person with dignity and worth, recogni zing his own unique characteristics, then lovingly directing him to reach his fullest learning capacity." Mrs. Smith has served on numerous school committees, where she was the chairperson for various ones. She has a flair for poetry and has written many poems for numerous occasions. Mrs. Smith is a member of the Pembroke Gospel Chapel where she has taught the Junior Girls for nineteen years. She also enjoys group singing. Other out-of school interests include reading, visiti^ by way of telephone as well as house calls, remembering birthdays of family and friends, providing her daughter with the social aspects of life, going on tour trips and enjoying the family poodle. In expressing her love for Piney Grove, Mrs. Smith paraphrased 1 Corinithans 12, the Bible's love story. Mrs. Smith is married to James Rufus Smith. They are the proud parents of one daughter, Shelena Gwen who is a sophomore at West Robeson High School. Mil. 1?? F.
