PEMBROKE STATE UNIVERSITY ?VOM WAftVWIi ? *. j ALPHA CHI INDUCTS 23 MEMBERS TO HIGHEST PSU SCHOLASTIC SOCIETY Alpha Chi, the highest scholastic society on the Pem broke State University cam pus, inducted 23 new mem bers Sunday night in a can dlelight ceremony at Lumber-, ton's Pine Crest Country Club. The induction was followed by a dinner. To qualify for this honor society, a senior must have at least a 3.464 grade point average. A junior's require ments are even higher. They must have at least a 3.7 grade point average. Eleven seniors and 12 juniors were inducted. Only the top 10 percent of the Senior Class grade-wise usually qualifies for the soci ety, whereas only the top 5 percent of the Junior Qass qualifies. Each inductee was pre sented an Alph Chi magazine and signed the official Alpha Chi register. Chancellor Paul Givens and Dr. Leon Rand, vice chan cellor for academic affairs, spoke at the occasion. Chan cellor Givens said: "You are being honored for (1) your scholarly achievement and (2) your character. A person may have one without the other, but you have been selected because you possess these two traits that qualify you for Alpha Chi membership." Dr. Rand commented: "To be chosen in Alpha Chi, you have been marked as very special. You have attained a status to which you may proudly refer for the rest of your life. I know you will long cherish your memories of this evening." Sponsor for Alpha Chi and emcee of the program was Dr. Kathryn Rlleigh. professor of psychology at PSU. Assisting her were Dr. Mary Boyles, director of PSU developmen tal learning programs, and Dr. Rudy Williams, associate professor of communicative arts. UNC SLIDE PRESENTATION AT WILMINGTON Pembroke State Univer sity, UNC-Wilmington, and Fayetteville State University are sponsoring a multi-media slide presentation about the entire 16-campus UNC Sys tem at UNC-Wilmington next Thursday, Nov. 29. President William Friday will be there as official host for the presentation which will be free to the public at UNC-W's Kenan Auditorium at 8 p.m. Making a few remarks about the fine edu cation she received at PSU will be Fraaceeea Adler. "Miss North Carolina" who was a summa cum laude graduate of PSU in '83. Preceding, the slide pre sentation will be a buffet for invited guests at 6:30 p.m. in UNC-W's University Union (its student center). Miss Adler will also appear at that function. Petforming at the reception will be Dr. WHliam Fritz's "Singers and Swing ers." Displays of banners and pennants from all 16 campus es of the UNC System will be on display. This Wilmington meeting is one of seven meetings show ing the slide presentation in different regions of North Carolina. The cost per person is $7. There is an additional 55 charge per person for those wishing to attend the buffet at UNC-W. The bus will leave at 4 p.m. and stop in Lumberton in the Cinema Four parking lot at 4:30 p.m. It will return immediately after the slide presentation.
