HIGHLIGHT WEEK
A visit by Gov. Jim
Martin on Friday and com
mencement exercises on Sat
urday when the speaker will
be Phillip Carson, chairman of
the UNC Board of governors,
highlight a momenteous week
this week at PSU.
The graduation ceremonies
Saturday begin at 2 p.m. in
the Performing Arts
Center.
The Governor is scheduled
to be here at a -eccDtion in his
honor in OU Main's IWM

5:15 p.m. to meet golfers
taking part in the annual PSU
Scholarship Golf Tournament.

terms as a Mecklenburg
County Commissioner, was
elected chairman, pnd was
elected president of the N.C.
Association of County Com
missioners.
He earned a B.S. degree
from Davidson College in
1957 and a Ph.D. from
Princeton University in I960.
He taught chemistry at David
son from 1960 until his
election to Congress in 1972.
Gov. Martin is the son of
the Rev. and Mrs. Arthur M.
Martin. His father, who
died in 1982, was Executive
Secretary of the Presbyterian
Synod of South Carolina. It
was at a Presbyterian Church
summer youth camp that Gov.
Martin met his future wife,
Dorothy. Parents of three
children, their home in on

p.m. lor a 1 p.m. "Shotgun"
start. There will be all kinds of
prizes in this benefit event
front which the proceeds go
for student scholarships. To

FILMS CREW WILL
BE BUSY
With the Governor's visit
Friday and commencement
Saturday, television crews
will be busy shooting footage
at PSU. Not only will WPSU
TV, PSU's own TV facility,
be videotaping the events
but so will the N.C. Agency
for Public Tele
communications from Ralei
gh. TV stations from the
surrounding areas have also
been invited.
By the way, the operations
director of the Agency for
Public Telecommunications is
Mike Stroud, a native of
Maxton who graduated from
PSU in '73. _ He was on
campus last week discussing
filming possibilities for PSU's
Centennial in 1987.

Hall. Following the meeting,

majoring ill accounting, re
cently presented a paper at
Hie National Convention at
Alpha CIi al Louisville, Ky.
The title of her talk was: "The
Woman's Payclieck: Attrac
tive Opportunities f>?r Mar
keters." She serves as vice
president of Alpha Chi, the
highest scholastic organisa
tion on the PSU campus.

BETTY KOBINSON
Mrs. Betty Robinson, 49
year-old Luiraftrion woman,
was the subject during the
past week of a story concern
ing her graduating Saturday
with a degree in Businr s
Administration. She went to
school at PSU for six years to
obtain it, taking a tew courses
at the time while fulfilling her
other responsibilities of being
a wife and mother.
Television stations from
Wilmington and Fayetlevillc
became interested in the story
and planned interviews with
Mrs. Kobinson. So graduating
and being before the TV
cameras made this a big
week indeed for Betty Robin
son. a very nice person who is
a native of Wilmington.

ROBESON COUNTY ARTS
AND CRAFTS FESTIVAL
The Lumberton Robeson
County Chamber of Commer
ce will sponsor the Annual
Robeson County Arts and
Crafts Festival to be held on
Sunday, June 23, 1985 from
Noon until b p.m. in the
downtown Lumberton area.
Local artists and crafts
people will exhibit and sell
their wares on the sidewalks.
Entertainment for the event
will be provided by area
bauds and singing groups
throughout the afternoon.
Several contests will be
held such as pie eating,
chug-a-lug, basketball shoot
out. and modern art, with
prizes awarded to the win
ners.
Food and refreshments will
be available for the public.
Balloons will be sold.
Artists and craftspeople are
welcome to register for a
booth space at a cost of S20 1

a junior from Rowland who is
majoring in management,
accounting has been elected
president of PSU's Student
Government Association for
the 1985-86 academic year.
A Dean's List student, he
has served as both a freshman
and a sophomore senator. He
is the son of Mrs. Lessie C.
Lewis of Rowland.
A 1983 graduate of South
Robeson High School, Camp
bell was there a member of
the Beta Club and Science
Club. He wants to become an
officer in the U.S. Air Force
after graduation.
Elected vice president of
the SGA was Manfred Riley of
Favetteville, while elected
treasurer was Floyd Locklear
of Pembroke.
