Selling. ?? ^ ROBESON COUNTY I WYV1S0XENDINELEADS BALLOTING IN RACE FOR COMMISSIONER ^ vis Oxendxne Approximately 38 percent of the voters in Robeson County turned out on Tues day, May 6, 1986 to cast their votes. The county voted overwhelmingly against the North Carolina Nuclear Waste Site with 15,590 cast- ( ing no votes and 1,371 voters saying yes. No upsets were made in the local races for County Commissioner. Commission er Sammy Cox, District 1 overcame challenger J.D. Odum with a slight margin. Bill Hemdon in District 4 overcame challenges by 3 opponents. Wyvis Oxendine in District 4 outpolled near est challenger Noah Woods by 357 votes. For the Robeson County Board of Education in Dis trict 9 Robert Deese out polled incumbent Charles D. Locklear and Randall W. Chavis. Deese received 368 votes from the Smiths and Philadelphus Precincts while Randall Chavis received 256 and Charles P. Locklear .received 161. " In District U2 incumbent Ronald Revels polled 633 votes retaining his seat against Willie Wendell Low ery who received 496 votes. Rufus Graham, incumbent in District 3 handily defeated Clyde M. Colbert 722 votes to 229 Hie three incumbents will also be returned to the House of Representatives, according to the unofficial count. Rep. Daniel DeVane, Rep. Sidney Locks and Rep. Pete Hasty will apparently serve another term in Ra leigh. Re-elected also was Sheriff Hubert Stone. At press time, Randall W. Chavis did call and report that he would definitely seek a run off in the race for Board of Education District #9. Other expected run offs are Noah Woods against Wyvis Oxendine; Gary N. Powers against Bill Hemdon. Robert Deese Pembroke Rescue Squad To Hold Plate Sale Pembroke Rescue Squad will be holding a plate sale on Friday, May 23 beginning at 10:30 a.nj. Chicken and barbecue plates will be sold with all proceeds going to the Pembroke Rescue Squad. Come out and support your local rescue squad unit, which is non-profit and operated by volunteers trained in emergency rescue care. HELP US HELP YOU!
