How many sunrises have brought new hope and fresh energy? How many limes have human hearts contemplated the origin of all things? How many people have turned their thoughts to the God who invented sunsets? The very first words of the Bible tell us of our foundation: “In the beginning God...” And the honest heart responds and wants to know this God. Yet. during all these sixty centuries, who has reaUy known Him? Most people can identify with the ancient patriarch Job. In one way or another we have suffered loss...of loved ones...of possessions...of health. We have wondered; we perhaps have lost courage and even questioned God. We have asked. Why? Why? The book of Job brings us many insights into what we face in life's perplexities. Some of life’s greatest questions are found in Job 11:7-9; “Can you fathom the mystery of God, can you fathom the perfection of the Almighty? It is higher than heaven; you can do nothing. It is deeper than Sheol; you can know nothing. Ks measure is longer than the earth and broader than the sea.” (NEIB) In other words, God is infinite. He cannot be measured by our finite minds. Who can really find out God? “But the Almighty we cannot find.” (Job 37:23, NEB.) “Consider: God is so great that we cannot know him.” (Job 36:26, NEB.) And the plea of Job in his distress is the plea of the hearts of human beings eveiywhere: “Oh that I knew where I might find Him!” (Job 23:3.) From the sorrowful moment in Elden when Adam and Eve chose to listen to Satan’s lies about God, people to a greater or lesser extent believed in a God who wasn’t. They accepted the devil’s picture of a harsh, stem, arbitrary, tyrannical Deity, who was clothed with the same oassions and traits that characterized the fallen Lucifer and his followers. The greatest tragedy that could befall mankind was this false view of God, for men became like the god they worshipped-they became harsh, stem, arbitrary, tyrannical toward their fellow creatures, untO they were so violent that God had to send a flood to end the terror and bring a new beginning. After the flood the devil's lies prevailed again. Eventually, all over the world, even in the land of Israel, people worshipped gods who weren’t They even sacrificed their own children in their futile efforts to appease the arbitrary and tyrannical deities. Four thousand years passed since Creation, and “the earth was dark through misapprehension of God.” {Desire of Ages, p. 22) Could anyone enlighten the darkness? Yes! There was One. He came to this sin-darkened worid to reveal the light of God's love-to be “God with us.” He was Immanuel, the Lord Jesus, the Saviour of all who will receive Him. He came to show us what God is really like. And only He could show us, because only He fully knows the height and depth of God’s love. Jesus said of Himself, “I am the light of the Worid.” He came to this earth to reveal the character of the Father to men. He could do this, because He is God. No longer do people need to grope in a misty uncertainty as to the characteristics of God. All we have to do is look at the life and death of Jesus-and we see what God is really like. Once we have looked at Jesus in this way, the whole picture of God as revealed from Genesis to Revelation becomes a beautiful, inspiring one. And we see a God we can reverence, a God we can trust, a God we can love. Don't forget to Usten to “Springs of Living Water, ” weekdays at 7 p.m. on WSTS-FM, 96.5 on the dial xvith your host. Pastor Godfrey! MT. AIRY NEWS Stmday was a wonderful day for us in church. There were a lot of visitore in our midst. I am quite sure everyone really felt welcome and come back again soon. Tbe ladies chorus really did some wonderful singing, especially “I Can Call Jesus Anytime.” by Violet Locklear be a little more open-hearted in your dealings with people: a little more inclined to lool for the good rather than th« bad; a little more willing to assume the risks of caring; maybe just a little more angelic. And may we all remember the one whom gave his life for all of us. That is one song with a great meaning. For today, even though we are aware of life’s storms whirling around us-illness, job problems, los; of loved ones-whieh we kno\/ sooner or later will strike-I also know that God is there to help us through them: for I have really been sick lately. The pastor’s message was really heart touching. It was taken from Galations 4:1-7. His subject was “The Ser- , vant, the Son and the Sav iour.” Definitely speaking, I think we all are really proud of our pastor. We welcomed gladly Rev. and Mrs. King Maynor and granddaughter as they joined our church. After being minister to different hu- for a number of years. cner King decided to come back to his home church. Mrs. Eunice had joined our class for over a month and she said she really liked it This past Sunday night at 7 p.m. Rev. P.B. (Bossy) Swett was guest speaker at our church. The pastor also began t new study course “Becom ing a Christian Leader.” The aim is to place leadership within the reach of every Christian. This Sunday night begin ning at 7 p.m. we vrill be having our quarterly singing. We have a featured group coming and we welcome any church group or others who love to sing for the glory of God to come and be with us. Singing to me is something special.
