INTERESTING EXPERIENCES
Life is sometimes lonely without Leon, Donny (my first
baby), and Gordon (my last baby). But so many interesting
hings keep happening that I don't have much time to brood
?ver them,
EASTER SUNDAY
On Easter, for instance, I attended preaching service at
"First Methodist." a special Easter program at St. James
(UMC) that afternoon, and the evening service at the Gospel
Chapel. On three Sunday afternoons since then there have ..
been: the Robeson County jneeting^of -United"Wittfodisf
Women at AStfpdle Center (UMC), a Native American Church
History Workshop at First UMC. Pembroke, and dedication of
the new district parsonage at Laurinburg. And of course
attending "First Methodist" two or three times a week and
participating in activities at the Gospel Chapel two or three
times a week.
SOUTH ROBESOSSl 'BSTTTUTE AND RESOURCE PERSON
Although my teacher's certificate is in Early Childhood.
T ve really enjoyed substituting in classes of older children and
high school youth. On Monday, the 25th, I had the opportunity
to talk with three of Mr. Edmond Ix*(dear's social studjes
classes about by native state of Montana, as well as contrasts
between the eastern and western United States. Also, I shared
with imp ftf hie FT nor Iich rlaeaou snmo r\f rr?u nvnanonnac nf
"writing "Reflections" in the M*m Vmci. This was npirial?l
interesting to mo, becaue Bdmond mi tko ong who inspired
mo to bollovo in myself. bock whoa I mi m inoflkl?t homo
mahor (with on* child (till in diopwi) by saying duo* words:
"You can write."
I don't know which is mom of a challango-- being a
"substitute" or a ''resource person." But I ham mall]
enjoyed both roiea.
Hem's a poem I ran acmes recently in a notebook I ones
used for one of the Early Childhood couraea. In pamntheae
added (Eaater, 1971, Robeson County). I remember
composing it one Sunday evening when the five of ua were on
our way to visit friends at Prospect

Mr. Richard Jones found this mama possum with the baby
possums on her back. They were in the yard of hit home
located at the Intersection of Hwy 7K and 710 (Route

the Hunt's Studio of Photography where photographer Bill
Hunt shot several poses.

promise over ten years ago when I
used to visit the Odom Home in
Pembroke, that if I ever found a
child or young person, that was
thrown away by their parents, or
made to leave home that I would
give them a home and the love that
I never received. I know what its
like to live without love, and all I j
have ever asked these kids in return
is that they make something of
themselves. I am very pleased and
proud to accept this award and I
would like to tell all of my kids
that "I love you very much!!".
Vinita Clark is the daughter of
Mr. Chacy Volton Maynor of
Pembroke. She was the 1976 "Den
Mother of the Year" for the Cape
Pear Council. She is listed in
"Who's Who in Robeson County
Boy Scouting". She is the Leader of
Tiger Cub Scout Pack 327 of Pem
broke, and has been a member of
the outdoor drama "Strike at the
Wind" for the past eight years.
