The National Endowment for the Humanities sponsors S3 seminars annually across the U.S. Each seminar is open to 15 eligible teachers who receive a stipend to cover travel, housing, books, and reseach expenses. Dolores Jones has been accepted as a participant in a Level II Spanish Workshop sponsored at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill. During this 16-day workshop, she will be involved in an integrated program which combines residential language immersion, formal instruction in conversation, grammar and literature, as well as a variety of culturally enriching activities. "All Level II Spanish Workshop participants are teachers who attended one of the previous Level I Spanish Workshops sponsored by the University or who have analagous competence in Spanish," said Jones. However, I am more elated about the honora awarded to two of my senior varsity basketball players, Donald Galbreath and Jeremy Sampson. "Donald has been selected to attend West Point Military Academy and Jeremy has been awarded a full basketball scholarship to attend Pembroke State University," said Gaskins.
