But after six years of labor, the restoration of the Main Building at Ellis Island?the largest restora tion in American history?has been completed and will open this fall as The Ellis Island Immigration Mu seum. One special exhibit at the Museum, The American Immigrant Wall of Honor, will list the names and countries of origin of many families and individuals who came to this country looking for a new life. Registration for the Wall of Honor cloaed in 1969 so that nearly 200,000 names could be engrayed in time for the public opening of The Ellis Island Immigration Museum. But thousands of requests con tinued to come in, prompting The Statue of Liberty-Ellis Island Foundation to launch The Centen nial Wall of Honor, which will give more Americans the chance to pay tribute to their forefathers. "Ellis Island and the Wall of Honor exemplify the struggle, per severance and triumph of the Amer ican immigrant," said Stephen Bri ganti, the president of The Statue of Liberty-Ellis Island Foundation. "The Centennial Wall again offers Americans the opportunity to honor their family'* heritage in America at the national monument to the peo pling of America." The Wall of Honor will be built in time for the opening of El lis this fall, and The Centennial Edition will open in 1992 for Elli* Island's 100 year anniversary. A report on the proposed use of the Community Services Block Grant funds is available for inspection at the office of James A. Hardin, Executive Director of LRDA. The report will also be available at the public hearing. Persons interested in reviewing the report should visit the office of the Executive Director or attend the public hearing. Public input and comments on the report are welcome. The following is a summary of the LRDA plan: LRDA proposes to use the Community Services Block Grant (1) Provide jribal Enrollment services for the Lumbee Tribe, (2) To assist the operations of Indian senior citizens chapters, (3) To assist low income Indian people to be involved in activities that will help them become more self sufficient; (4) To assist Indian families to participate in the LRDA-Lumbee Tribe Low Income Energy Assistance Program and other public assistance programs, (5) To obtain help in crisis situations including food, medical assistance, housing and utilities, and (6) Assistance for economic development for the tribe.
