Locklear Visits Area I
Lonzell Locklear, Jr. of Canada is currently visiting
Pembroke during the/American Indian Heritage Week.
Lonzell is the son of the late Lonzell Locklear, formerly
of Pembroke and Ruth Locklear. He is the grandson of
Swannie Locklear and the late Tonnie Locklear of the SL
Annah Community.
Lonzell graduated from Southern Alberta Institute of
Technology in Calgaiy, Canada with a diploma in
Engineering and Industrial Technology in 1981. He
graduated from the University of Lethbridge in
Lethbridge, Canada with a Bachelor of Science in Biology,
granted from distinction in 1986. He received his Masters
of Science in Molecular Biology in December 1989 after
receiving scholarships from the Medical Research Council
of Canada and the Heritage Foundation for Medical
Research using a Diesis entitled "Electron Spectroscopic
Imaging of Deoxyribonucleic Acid."
Lonzell is a Foreign Service Officer (Diplomat). He was
on temporary duty from February 13th thru May 28th
1990 in Hong Kong, China at the Canadian Consulate. His
duties there included issuing Visas to people wishing to
visit Canada, to those wishing to attend the University of
Canada also those wishing to immigrate to Canada. He
also performed consular duties such as assisting
Canadians travelling in Hong Kong and conducting area
trips to Guangshow (Canton) China and Macao.
Lonzell is currently a Foreign Service Officer with the
Canadian Department of External Affairs. He will be
staffing Canadian Embassies, High Commissions and
Consulates around the world. He will also provide
consular assistance to Canadians and cany out programs
intended to "Advance Canada's Foreign Policy Objec
tives."
Lonzell and his Trina currently reside in Ottawa,
Ontario, the capital city of Canada.

Notice is hereby given that the Pembroke Town Council will conduct
a public bearing on October 7,1991, at 7:00 p.m. at the Pembroke
Town Hall, Pembroke, N.C., relative to the intention of the Town of
Pembroke to apply for funding under Title I of the Housing and
Community Development Act The Town of Pembroke intends to
submit an application for a grant of approximately $300,000 in FY91
Community Development Block Grant Economic Development hinds.
The town will utilize these funds to provide water, sewer, street, and
drainage improvements to the new Pemberton Place Nursing Home
on Wardcll Street in the Town of Pembroke. The nursing home will
create approximately 80 jobs for low and moderate income individu
als.
The purpose of the public hearing is to obtain the views and proposals
of the citizens of Pembroke with regard to this application.
All citizens are requested and encouraged to attend the public
bearing and make comments and suggestions.
If additional information is needed, please contact the Pembroke
Town Clerk's office, at (919)521-97SS.
Formal written complaints or comments concerning the application
process which are submitted to the Pembroke town Clerk's office will
be responded to within 18 working days by the Pembroke Town
Council.

PLEASE JOIN US, WE NEED YOUR HELP
We have 22 guy* who believe in haling kids, schools,
the poor, kids baseball, scouts. And the job is so big we
need to more than double the membership. We've picked
up litter on the highways and you weren't with us. Hesse
examine your conscience and join our efforts in helping
the service we all owe our fellow man. Hie coat is t20 per
month taht all goes to pay the Town and Country
Restaurant for the fine meals of home cooking she puts
on. Please don't put it off any longer, even your wife can
now join Kiwanis. No golf club can exist wihtout the
women either, so ladies you can join too. The job is huge.
Hi is club is not cHcky, it is strictly in service to the
community. Sure we enjoy the fellowship, but the service
to the community is number one priority. Example- We
have a leteer from Principal James C. Dial of the
Elementary School asking us to help them with their
CUl retardation program of 20 kids. They are having a
I raising plate sale tentatively set for Saturday,
October 5 at the town park and they are requesting help.
Hie Kiwanis Club is donating $200. The letter to Bill
Oxen dine, our fund raising chairman was signed by
teachers Gisele D. Carter, Sandra Haree and Annie
Tnompson, president of Someone Special Club. You out
there too are spMhi -er wouldn't be on this earth.
