Fund (NASF) announced today that
12 of its students were graduated in
1994. Two of them were medical
; doctors, one is an attorney, and nine
earned bachelor's degrees
"This is the largest group of
graduates we have had in our eight
year history." stated the CEO. Dr.
Dean Chavers. "We funded 112
students this past year, and are really
proud of our graduates All of them
earned GPA's of 3.0 or higher, and
two of them won the highest honors "
The NASF funded a total of 112
students in 1993-94. Dr Chavers
added, and expects to fund a total of
130 or more in the coming year
Students funded by NASF are
primarily in the math, science, and
engineering fields, stated Lynette
Charlie, the Recruiter for NASF. They
must exhibit leadership.eaniexcellent
grades, earn high test scores, and m ust
apply for all other sources of funds for
which they are eligible.
Because of a large bequest the
Fund recently received. Dr. Chavers
saia. tne activities or recruiting
students and preparing them for
college study will be stepped up in
1994-95. Eventually, the Fund plans
to have seven regional offices, in
addition to the national office in
Albuquerque, he added The first
regional office will be open in
September. 1994.
"We have a retention rate of
95%." Dr. C ha vers reported. "Since
we began operations in 1986. we have
funded 163 students, and only lost
eight. We think this is the highest rate
of success ever achieved with Indian
students But it proves that Indian
students can achieve anything they
want to Our secret is that we make
sure our students are fully prepared
for college before the> set foot on
their college campus "
To be eligible for a scholarship
from NASF, students must be one
quarter Indian and enrolled in a
federally-recognized. state
recognized. or terminated Indian tribe
in the U S

Our judging panel, annually
includes representatives from the TV/
film industry and modeling agency
personnel. Many of our winners have
