He has worked with the Indian Communities of Robeson, Cumberland, lived on the Chippewa Indian and Navajo Reservation, and he understands the struggles faced by both rural and urban Indian people. In the 4th District, Lumbee People are faced with unemployment, under employment. Inadequate health care, education and a host of other concerns.
