At Hestertown Church Of God For Tonya Locklear ? mamm ? _ ? m* * Tonya Locklear the Singing Scolts ? > Nadine and Steve Carta and Redemption * 521-2826 to Subscribe .'?2 A Benefit Gospel Singing will be held November 12 at 7 p m at the Hestettown Church of God The benefit singing will be held for Tonya Locklear and will feature Nadine and Steve, the Singing Scotts, Carta and Redemption, and the Kellys. Tonya Locklear of Lumbetton was born on March 10,1980 to Johnny and Patricia Locklear. She was bom with a birth defect called myelomeningocele, which is the most severe fonn of spina bifida. She suffers from an opening in the lower part of her back. It involves the spinal cord and the nervous system. The disease effects the brain and spinal cord. Tonya, now 14 years old, has never walked anddoctors say she never will. She began her life with one surgery after the other. She underwent surgery at birth to close the opening in her back, followed by surgery to inclose a shunt that drains the fluid off her brain. Tonya has undergone three delicate operations on her head. She had surgery last year for the bladder and kidneys. At fourteen, she has an aurostomy bag on her side. She has suffered severe kidney damage because her urine backed up in her kidneys and her bladder was not big enough Without this surgery, Tonya would have died, according to her doctor. Many doctors have suggested that Tonya's parents not try to care for her. but they are very dedicated to their beautiful young daughter Her mother, Patricia, has not been able to work because of caring for Tonya She now has Tonya in school It has been difficult for this family to get help. She now has doctor and hospital bills amounting to over S40.000.00 just from her last surgery. Some of her friends and family have begun a fundraising for Tonya. This includes the gospel sing on November 12th and various other fundraisers for her. Now they are asking for your prayers and support There is no way that the family can handle this on their own. but they can if we all join in and help If you would like to meet Tonya or you need mote information, call 738 2060 or write Patricia Locklear at Route 10 Box 761, Lumberton, NC 283S8.
