Montana, on January 23, 1997. The way her mind and health were holding out. some of us thought she would make it to 100 And she herself had fug thinking about that possibility But, like all of us should be, 1 believe, she was ready to either stay here or go on to be with the Lord Four months after turni ng 98 she had a stroke She died one month later, in June of 1995. For 67 years January 23 was a very important date for me. Last year 1 had my mind on my-two-month-old grandson This year the day was almost over before I realized it was the 23rd Seems strange not to be looking for "Mother" cards anymore However, my 85-year-old cousin Elizabeth and my brother Stan's granddaughter were both born on Mother's Birthday. Aunt Jessie, Elizabeth's mother, gave her daughter the middle name, alta. in honor of her younger sister When my niece, Terri, had a baby girl on that date, she named her Sarah Mother's real name was Sarah Alta Rcdficld Sarah was the name of her mother "Vira's" mother Alta was the name of one of her mother's sisters Even though Mother always went by "Alia", asa child she thought it was special that her initials "S A R" were the first three letters of her first name Mother liked her middle name so well that she passed it on to me I'm the only family member since my great aunt Alta Page with "Alta" as a first name ^ Notice of Public Hearing ; The Title IX Indian Education Parent Committee of the Public Schools of Robeson County will hold a Public Hearing on Monday, February 3, 19971 at 6:00 p.m. at the Indian Education Center, Pembroke, North Carolina, The Hearing,,open to <h? g6H6ral public, especially to parents of Indian students enrolled in tire Public Schools of Robeson County and to high school Indian students.
