TltusSaith God by Rev. Ted Brooks Sex, Morality and Prostestant Minister. What Sexual Standard Should the Clergy> Obey? The God of Israel said "The rock of Israel spoke to me. He who ruleth over man must be just, ruling in the fear of God. He shall be as the light of the morning when the sun riseth, even a morning without clouds. As the tender grass springing out of the earth by clear shining after rain. II Samuel 23:2-4. This a true saying: if a man desire the office of a bishop (minister) he desireth a good work. A bishop or minister must be blameless, husband of one wife, vigilent, sober, of good behavior, given to hospitality, apt to teach. I Timothy 3:1-2. These are the standards which God has set forth. You may not approve, nevertheless, they a re God's standards. Brother Paul describes the qualifications of pastors. First, he must have a desire. In this desire. Brother Paul is saying you will need a longing for God. Be as David cried, "my soul thirsteth for God, not just any God but for the living God, my soul longs for that water brooks, my soul is after thee." Psalms 41:1-2. The second thing Paul brings up as a standard is good works. Sitting around where folks gather to drink coffee and to discuss politics are not good works. The third standards Brother Paul brings us is (Bishops) Pastors, St. John 1:6 tells us there was a man sent from God. I still believe God sends men out, but because of politics in the church, folks don't pray for God to send them a preacher. They get in a back room and pull names saying, we want a careful preacher. In other words, someone who won't go against the grain. What they ought to be doing is praying for a carefree preacher. One who is at liberty with God. One whose soul is on blaze for the presence of God. \ Then Brother Haul declared, he must be blameless. Brother Paul is giving a strong command regarding a bishop. He is saying this is an obligation. It is a necessity on the he pan of the church that the standard of a minister be blameless. Instead of ha\ ing his feet on the floor of this world calling himself dancing, he needs to be on his knees praying. Having been-found to be blameless unto God has promised to confirm unto the end. he swings the podium around completely by saying "Husband, love your wife even as Christ also loved the church and ga\ c hi"nu! f for it." Brother Paul is say ing :i you have a desire to follow me above all others, and you really want this space, and you have good works and have been found blameless and you are a husband that will give himself for his wife as Christ gave himself for the church, then you are qualified to me a Bishop. Christ said. "I purchased the church with my own blood." Acts 20:28. Brother Paul is simply saying, mu ministers are husbands, man and wife not separated and divorced, but together. Brother Paul here declares that a husband is partner in a marriage, a soUnd person who is wise. One who pays close attention, with a view of anticipation when danger makes its approach. He is one who is alert and sober and not drunk. These my friend are some of God's stan-. dards for his' ministers. If your pastor does not carry these standards, he is not God's minister. There is a lot of talk on television, radio and in the local churches. Folks are saying, "Lord,, Example Lord bless. Lord go with you, Lord loves you. Jesus said " Many would say Lord, Lord, but shall not enter the kingdom". Jesus made it plain that not every one is going to enter his kingdom. This is a solemn scripture in Matthew 7 :21. . Jesus is saying that talk is useless utiles* u is accompanied b> action, friend . W e are now liv ing in a world when talk is cheap. There was a lot of talk going on as Jesus observed here, they speak of their sermons which the* did in his name. A Careful Preacher want tell >ou. I his but Jesus declare at the Judgement seat.
