Gunner's Male (SNA) Tommy Ray
Locklear graduated from Magnolia
High School in 1977. After spending
eights ears in the civ ilian sector. Chief
Lockiear enlisted in the United States
Navy on December 9.1985. On February
4.1986 he reported to Recruit Training
in Great Lakes. IL.
After graduating bootcanip. Chief
Locklear reported to Gunner's Mate
"A" School in April 1986. W hile attending
Navy Training Center in Great
Lakes, he completed Basic Electricity
and Electronics School. Gunner's
Mate "A" School and MKI6 Antisubmarine
Rocket Launching Sy stem.
On March 1987. he reported to L'SS
MEYERKORD(FF-1058)asaGunner's
Mate in Weapons Anti-Submarine
Division. While serv ing aboard L'SS
MEYERKORD. he was promoted to
Petty Officer Third Class, and a year
later, to Petty Officer Second Class.
Between the two promotions, he became

After reporting to MK26 Guided
Missile Launching System in April
1990. he graduated with honor as a
distinguished graduate.
In October I990. he reported to
L SS VIRGINIA(CGN 38loutofNort'olk.
VA. Whileonboard, he served in
the Combat Missiles Ordnance Division.
participating in Operation Desert
Storm. Operation Provide Comfort.
Operation N A VOCFORMED. Operation
Dragon llam. and Tunisian
PASSEX. He was meritoriously promoted
to First Class Petty Officer.
Chief Locklear reported to Naval
Weapons Station in Yorktown. VA in
November 1992 to the Assembly Department.
InJuly 1993. ChiefLocklear reported
to Naval Ordnance Center Atlantic
Division Commissioning Crew.
Yorktown. VA. During this tour, he
served as the Ordnance Requisition
Manager ofall Atlantic Navy and Coast
Guard Commands east of the Mississippi
River and the Mediterranean
Commands. While in Yorktown. he
was named 1995 Atlantic Division
Sailorofthe YearandaCNOfinalist tor
Shore Sailor of the Year He was alsp
promoted to Chief Pett> Officer in the
L'nited States Nav\ on September I 5.

After being welcomed into the
brotherhood of the Chiefs' Mess, he
reported to L'SS SCOTT < DDG-995) in
October 1995.
After attending Navy Recruiting
Orientation Unit in Pensacola. FL in
Nov ember of 1998. Chief Locklear reported
to his first tour of recruiting
duty. After two months of recruiting
duty aboard Navy Recruiting District.
Raleigh. NC. in February 1999. Chief
Locklear learned ofhis selection in the
Chief Warrant Officer community .
After his commission ceremony on
March 1.2000. he w ill report to Chief
Warrant Officerlndoctrination School
in Pensacola. FL from March 6 through
April 7. Chief Warrant Officer Locklear
will then go to Ageis Training
Center. Dalgran.VA.
In July 2000. Chief W arrant Officer
Locklear will report to the USS BUNKER

school at Fort Jackson. Columbia. S.C.
The nine-week course is designed
to provide students with the information
and training techniques that drill
sergeants require to teach initial entry
or basic military trainees. The curriculum
includes drill and ceremonies,
physical fitness, weapons training, and
instruction on leadership and counseling
applicable to the initial entry
trainee environment.
