Editorial And Opinion Page AS I SEE IT] Bruce Barton 4??The Robesonian got it right this time: USC-P's Larry Rodgers is a class act Michael Janicke. A Robesonian sports columnist, recently wrote about UNCP's Larry Rodgers. He noted that Rodgers. UNC-P's long time track and field coach, had recently been named Coach of the Year at the Carolina Intercollegiate Championships. But the most important notation made by Janicke, as 1 see it, was his acknowledgement that Rodgers is a class act. We heartily concur with that and will have to admit that the Robesonian and Janicke got it right this time. Rodgers is the only Black head coach at UNC-P and lives in the Pembroke area with his wife. Shirley, who also works at the university as an administrative assistant. They are the proud parents of two daughters. Deidre. a N.C. State graduate, and Tina, a freshman at UNC-P. Rodgers is very active in the community and served a term as President of the Pembroke Jaycees. Congratulations, Coach Rodgers. You are a great asset to our community. LETTERS TO THE EDITOR The Voice of the People "Lumbee Tribe" Are you tired of our tribal leaders fighting for power, money, and position? Then, we as the people need to come together and elected righteous leaders that care for the well being of our tribe, to take care of our elderly and the misfortunate. What we have here are dictators who get money for the tribe and decide what they are going to do with it. They gave us a plan in the beginning that would help all people in housing, and now some of theLRDA Board of Directors have decided to change the plan without making the necessary amendments to U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD). They are not going to help-inobile home ownepr'WTiy'r They took applications in 1997 and agreed to rehabilitate mobile hlmes.rTTfen, LRDA and the Tribal Ciuncildecided, to figtajtfver the mSney. Vrhe^PJJld have had enough ofihis fighting among those 40 socalled tribal leaders. We will never be recognized, respected or believed that we can stand independent with sovereignty, being our own governing body, as other federal recognized tribes until we stand together for all the people. This is madness and a trick of the darkside to keep us down. Our Forefathers have fought long and hard to free us as a people. They have worked hard on the land to give the future generations of children a generation. As long as our child like leaders fight, bicker .and complain. misusing the charge and make a change for the better. Stop the madness and "stand as witnesses" for our children now and Generations to come. Before they talked of the white man, keeping us down. Look at our tribal leaders what are they doing? We have been called "Savages", wild people and ignorant. However, we have so much talent and education among our people that it is over looked because of leadership like this. HUD has been contacted and there is a meeting May 1,2000 at 7:00 p.m. at the Tribal Enrollment Office near Locklear's Funeral Home by the LRDA Board of Directors. If you are a mobile home owner and want services for your home, please be at this meeting and stand up for your rights. If you received a letter from North Carolina Indian Housing Authority (NICHA) stating that LRDA left your application behind, please make a copy and bring it with you to the meeting or mail to: Wind In Her Hair P.O. Box 425 Shannon, NC 28386 910-843-8601 I - mm Anything W hich Dues \ot Glorify God is a Sin "Be not overcome ofevil. but overcome e\ i I with good." (Romans 12:14-21) "Ye adulteress and adulterers know ye not that the friendship of this world is enmity with God'1 Whosoever therefore will be a friend of this world is the enemy of God Do not think that the scripture saith in vain. The spirit that dwelleth in us lusteth to envy." (James 4:4-5) "Love not the world neither the things that are in the world, if any man love the world, the love of the father is not in him." (I John 2:15) Right now there are some ofyou saving toy our selves. Oh. Brother Brooks, when I would do good evil is present. (Romans 7:2 1) My friend, that is still no reason to love this world's system. Sin is present, but is not supposed to be in us. God has warned that the scripture doth not speak in vain...about friendship of this world. You and 1 are called upon to love thy neighbor as thyself. Do good to those vvho despitefully use you and say all manner of evil against you. We are told to overcome evil and not let it overcome us There are those who will hide behind the old say ing "Our righteousness is as filthy rags." You ought to reply "Yes. there was a time when my righteousness was as filthy rags, but thank God there was a man sent from God called Jesus who asked me for a drink of water, but the well w as deep and we had nothing to draw it up with. Christ saw the rags we had on. and gave us water to drink." We who were redeemed from the curse of the law. It was Brother Paul who declared "And such w ere some ofyou. but ye are washed, but ye are sanctified, but ye are justified in the name of the Lord Jesus." (1 Corinthians 6:11) Oh. my friend, when you have been washed there are things to be removed. "The blood of Jesus Christ cleanses us from old rags." Listen, my friend, the reason some folk are still holding on to their old rags is that they have never died. "Likewise reckon ye also yourselves to be dead indeed." (Romans 6:11) Some of you have never died, you have, never been a witness. Do you know what a witness is? Jesus declared "Ye are my witnesses unto me." (Acts 1:8) In the Greek, the word witness means motous. It means literally to be put to death; to put to death anything which doth not give, glory and honor to God. What doth not please God must be put to death. The word death means dead to be sill, not moving. Let me ask you a question. Many of you have been to a funeral, have you ever seen a dead person wiggling? Has a dead person ever winked at you? No, they are dead. So you and I need to put to death that which does not please God. Let me tell you another thing about V a dead person. A dead person never changes positions. They seem to be comfortable. You can do what you want to them, but they never get mad? You can bury them, cremate them, bury them north or south and they never complain. Oh. my friend, when I ->ee a church choir with jealous). I know you are noi dead yet In a tew months, election for pastors w ill be up. S ou w ill see what you thought was dead come alive, that which was laid back there, has been teeding on envy lust and power w ill come alive Why? Vou went to the cemetery of what you thought was dead and for months you have been teeding it They are again entaneled therein and overcome. The latter end is worse than the beginning (. 11 Peter 2:20 > My friend, you don't feed yourself with the enemy ot this world Whoever will be a friend of this world is an enemy of God.. My friend, my Mom and Dad are deceased. I have never gone to their grave to offer water or food. They are dead. Vou don't feed that which is dead. My friend, anything which doth not glorify God is a sin. Why would you want to keep it alive? Things like adultery, fornication, uncleanness. lasciviousness. idolatry, sorcery, hatred, strife, jealousy, wrath, faction, sedition, heresies, envying, murders, drunkenness, rivaling and the like of which I tell you before as I have also told you in times past, that they who do such things shall not inherit the kingdom o'fGod. (Galatians 5:19-21). Tel I me. my friend, which of these do you water daily? I tell you the truth, a man who has reckoned fymself dead and* buried in the body ofChrist will separate from the plants ofsin. Best to put them in the closet of darkness away from light and let them die. If you are going to water your life, water the fruit of the spirit which is love, joy. peace, long suffering, gentleness, goodness, faith, meekness and self control...against which there is no law. (Galatians 5:22) Let me share with you how I have been able to not water those things which doth not glorify my God. I see and recognize the evil tiding upon this county. I recognize the undercurrent of soft punishment for hard crime. We are living at a time when a verdict can be rendered on the streets. David declared that he shall not be afraid of evil tidings, his heart is fixed, trusting in the Lord. (Psalm 112:7) My friend, we are living in evil days of which you can still be an overcomer ofevil. About every w eek now we see the tide of sorrow rising higher and higher in he national life and its dark waters are overflowing into almost every home. Our newspapers are filled with the evil tidings, television, radios have declared we are a nation w ithout wise men in public office. Now persons are asking the question can we live under such circumstances. Yes. thank God, we can be free from panic. You and 1 can declare. "My heart is fixed, trusting in the living God." A person who has shunned evil and done good shall not be afraid of evil tidings, his heart is fixed, trusting in the Lord. "Be not overcome by evil," said Paul, "Love your enemies, do good to those who despitefully use you." You can do this when you have reckoned ye also yourselves to be dead, indeed unto sin.
