A geological group who drilled a hole about 14.4 kilometers deep ( about 9 miles) in the crust of the earth, are saying that they heard human screams. Screams have been heard from the condemned souls from earth's deepest hole. Terrified scientists are afraid they have let loose the evil powers of hell up to the earth's surface "The information we are gathering is so surprising, that we are sincerely afraid of what we might find down there." stated Mr Azzacov, the manager of the project to drill a 14 4 kilometer hole in remote Siberia. The geologists were dumbfounded. After they drilled several kilometer through the earth's crust, the drill bit suddenly began rotate widely. "There is only one explanation- that the deep center of the earth is hollow." the surprised Azzacov explained The second surprise was the high temperature they discovered in the earth's center "The calculations indicate the given temperature was about 1,100 degrees Celsius, or over 2,000 degrees Fahrenhelt"< Dr. Azzaov points out. "This is far more than we expected. It seems almost like an inferno of fire liberality going on in the center of the earth". "The last discovery was nevertheless the most shocking to our ears, so much so that the scientists are afraid to continue the project. We tried to listen to the earth's movements at certain intervals with supersensitive microphones, which were let down through the hole. What we heard, turned those logically thinking scientists into a trembling ruins It was sometimes a weak, but high pitched sound which we thought to be coming from our equipment" explained Dr. Azzacov "But after some adjustments we comprehended that indeed the sound came from the earth's interior. We could hardly believe our own ears We heard a human voice, screaming in pain. Even though one voice was discernible, we could hear thousands, perhaps millions, in the background, of suffering souls screaming. After this ghastly discovery, about half of the scientists quit because of fear Hopefully, that which is down there will stay there."Dr. Azzacov added. From their research they learned many facts about the longhouse, a typical dwelling for the Iroquois. As a result of the study the students learned that longhouses were designed to housefive totwentyfamilies. Ithadnowindows and light was obtainedfrom the high, wide doors at each endandfrom above. The average longhouse was 60 feet long, 18 feet wide and 18feet high. Using these facts, the students constructed replicas of longhouses with a variety ofmaterials. The students were creative with he use of bark, sticks, rocks and even pine cones to complete their models. The projects were a success and the students enjoyed working on them as well as seeing the projects on display in th e media center. 4 Protecting Our Environment Space Research May Provide Earthly Answers (NAPS)?America's space program is planting some new ideas about growing food. This research may ultimately lead to added conservation of our natural resources. The International Space Station (ISS)?a space-based research facility that will orbit 250 miles above the earth?will be the site of numerous experiments in the fields of physics, biology, ecology, space science and earth science. Some of the fundamental laws that govern our physical world are difficult to test on earth. It is often necessary to use space to obtain measurements of the highest possible accuracy. This is so when extremely uniform samples?free from compression because of their own weight?are required, when objects must be freely suspended in space, or when the mechanical disturbances present in earthbound laboratories must be eliminated. For example, in the microgravity of space, scientists are able to study unique aspects of combustion. Combustion plays a central role in heating our homes, powering our cars and producing synthetic materials. Even small improvements in combustion efficiency could help us decrease pollution while saving the United States billions of dollars annually. Scientists will also use the space-based laboratory to learn how plants and animals that evolved under the influence of terrestrial gravity respond to longterm exposure to microgravity. In doing so, we further our understanding of the role of gravity in life processes on earth. In the future, an understanding of how plants respond to the space environment will be important as we try to control spacecraft environments and grow food for longduration space travel. The ISS will play a critical role as the only research facility where both microgravity and partial gravity can be used as experimental variables in a laboratory setting. Expected to be completed in 2004, the International Space Station?a combined effort of 16 countries around the world?will serve as a powerful laboratory where we can advance our understanding of the role of gravity in the origin and evolution of life. lb learn more about the International Space Station, visit the websites at httpY/station. nasa.gov and http://www.nasa.gov. The availability and quality of food on long space missions will depend on how well we understand the effects of gravity on the growth and reproduction of plants.
