Wvery family received A ham. and every member ot th family a Chriatma bwktU They all were waiting for a kin? To slay their foes and lift them high , Thou cam'st a little baby thing That made a woman cry. And though w hav had that strange pectacl bfor a for nearly twenty hundred year, w have not yet en the point of It. For when men speak a many men have spoken in the latwr day of th "cond" eomlng. they think of th Son of Man as king, somlng In all th pomp and display of cular royalty. But, unless God ha changed hi own natur. th on thing w may b quite ur of la that If th Son of Man comes h will com a h cam befoi" -In great humility; no king, but a servant; no n peror, but just man among man. Into a world whloh worships greatness h cam In th wlrt ness of a llttl child. In a world which I dased by pomp and flit ter h wa laid In a manger. In a world which wa drunken with power he chos to be a (errant. In a world In which man paid t pact to rich h had nowhere to lay hi head, and In a world which cherished respeotabillty he died on a criminal's gibbet. Sine vr tlm began men hav dreamed of th perfeot rulr, ome happy prlnc who hall lov hi people well, who powr hall be gentle, wis and Just, History la wistful with th ffort of man to find a hro trong with th gentleness of true gianthood, and then to establish him in dominion over their broken live and warring will. Long ago they found him; but all who find him lose him, though all hav found him fair. Th agar dream earn true when from th llttl town of Bethlehem there came th Man of Oood Will, th lovr of th rac. Each year, for a brief day, so wl(t to go. Lord Christ rule over ti. Bach year w glv Him Chrlstma Day, permitting his will to prevail, and hi brooding spirit to rest upon th nation!. . Toward that gentle Interlude th Day of th Truo of God w look forward long ingly, and when it la ended w look baok lov ingly, to th tlm when we ware good to gether. HI spirit breathe through th hour, Ilk faint musto In th night Strife anger, tumult and th hurry of th llttl daya ar forgotten. 1 In his authority there I peace. A while we dwell in hi kingdom. Touched with mortality, as in all arthly beauty, th day of Christ I gone while th welcome I tlll on our Up. H earn and h passed, because we ar troubled about many thing. And, h If hi dominion ever the heart of men wer mors than an episode If he might abide It would be well with u. and pity and Joy would walk th common way ot man.
