The feature in the cotton market during the past week was the census report on gin ning to November 1, and the excited advance which followed the publica tion of the , figures on Wedneaday morning. 1 Evidently the report that S.189,189 bales had been gtnnid up to Novem ber 1, was Interpreted by local trad ers as tending to confirm crop esti mates of under rather than over 10.000,000 balea. It waa argued In this connection that -considering the favorable weather of this autumn and na many reports of rapid prog ress In picking, ths percentage of the crop ginned to November 1 was not likely to prove less than that of last year when waa $. per c!nt, 0n thla basla this year's ginning waa re garded as pointing to a crop of not over 9,770,000 fcaiea and the more bullish view of the supply situation found further ercoursgement In the estimates of private authorities ranging from about 9.E0O.000 to 9, 100,100 balea. Tha response of the market to revised Ideaa of the yield suggested thst there had previously been a disposition to hope for a crop of over ten million bales and before there was any halt in the buying movement, December contracts sold at iS.IJ. The realising anoountered at thla level was absorbed on com paratively moderate reactlona, with the market later ahowing renewed strength and advancing to 21.80 for December contracts, compared with 23.81, the low price of November 1. and 20.30, the low price touched oa the decline late In September. Notwithstanding the extent of this advancs, many local tradsrs wars ex- Sresslng confidence in ultimately still Igher prices at the end of ths week, ' although there was also a good deal ' iraiiiionsry sentiment in evidence, and the late week fluctuations were nervous and Irregular. Both foreign Unll dnmeatli. t r. in,----.- ported active buyers on the mid week advance, which waa alao en couraged by the bullish character of advices from southern, spot markets. The demand from tha trade w r. ported a little lens active toward the end of the week, however, and one of the features of today's market was the relatively eaay ruling of Decem ber under selling which appeared to be partly for spot bouse account.
