SsleaeM Year for Chapel Hill. The community club of Chapel Hill has begun most . enthusiastically another year's work under ,the highly efficient leadership of Mrs. Sturgls E. Leavltt. More than two hundred members are registered In the Tear plook, and that offers a working force with fine possibilities for the club and the village Itself. At the first regular business meet tng of the club last week, a brief report from the chairmen of the six departments of the club Indicated that a variety of Interesting themes are to be pursued this season. The literature department Is to present a program dealing largely with con temporary drama, but offering I triple Interest: each meeting la to consist of an Informal review of some book of recent note, a glance at soma bit of modern poetry, and then the reading Of one or two Drier mays, The home economics department will take up household decoration, an exceedingly interesting feature of their study course being a lecture by Mr. Q. Murray Nelson, archlteot of Raleigh, on the subjeot of doors and arches. The health department Is offering a most attractive oppor V tunlty to the women of Chapel Hill to hear a series of eight neaitn lec tures and eight lessons in physical exercise by Miss Parmelee, formerly an assistant to Miss coorott The de partment of eduoatlon Is conterlng Its Interest upon the aspects of the race problem which are - met In Chanel HI1L A commission eonsls. ting of a member from each chuch In town, later to be expanded by ad ditlonal representatives from other Interested organisations, has been . appointed to consider such problems as arise In the village, and to aeek a , way around difficulties. Excellent Speaker for Art, One of the most Interesting lec turers who has ever appeared before Raleigh audience Is Frank Alvah Parsons, of New York, the most widely quoted authority on Interior decorating and costume designing In this country. Last year, he gave two leoturea to the Raleigh club women and they have already arranged to have him again this year. Since the Raleigh club will bear the consider. . able Item of thla lecturer's expenses from New Tork city to this state, It would be decidedly to the advent i age of other North Carolina clubs to secure his services after his appear. ance In Raleigh. The charge for one lecture la 175, and for two lectures $135. Clubs, or art departments, desiring to secure Mr. Parsons may do so by writing Mrs. R. L,. McMillan, chairman of the art department of tha Raleigh woman a club. Boxes For Ex-Serviee Mea. After the wouderful response made bv the clubs In North Carolina last year In sending boxes and stockings to the ex-servtoa men and women who are patients at our government hospitals In ; tha Carolines, there should not be a club In the state that will not desire to do even more this Christmas to show our love and ap preciation of these men and women. Between Ourselves Tour doctor will toll you that If you were to tie your arm to the aide of your body and did not use It nature would grad ually absorb all the muscle and practically only nkln and bone would remain. Before lone; your arm would become useless. And did you ever note the de-, velopment of the blacksmith? He needs one powerful arm and nature donates It to him. But on the other hand she reduces the other arm In most cases un less the blacksmith has made It a point to exercise the other arm outside the work called for In his trade. The same thlnsr Is true of mental development. Let your faculties remain In idleness and they will soon be useless. They "rust out," often beyond recall. It Is easy to note our physical laxness. but not so easy to check bp on our mental Idle ness. It Is up to every one of us to be on our guard.
