Murray, city clerk since th present administration took charge of the city government and one of the best known of the younger business men In Greensboro, has re signed his position effective Decem ber 1. Me will go to High Point to be connected with the Giant Furniture ecmpany, of that city, and will make his home In High Point. His resignation, which has been accepted, but only with the greatest reluctance by city authorities, throws the position open. The matter wll come up before the city council at its meeting next Monday, at which time his successor will probably be chosen. City officials united In expressing regret that Mr. Murray had resigned, but added that they did not feel, of course, that they could stand In the way of his becoming associated with the furniture manufacturing In dustry. They regard the work he has done tor the city as of unusually high quality. He was elected as city clerk and later the duties of city treasurer and city tax collector were merged by ordinance with hia duties. As clerk, treasurer and tax collec tor Mr. Murray has had a large share la the financial policy of the city ad ministration, and no small part ot the success of the city council In put ting Greensboro's financial affairs on what Is regarded by many as tho ) firmest footing In many years Is at tributed to him. The dream of th proverbial small boy Is now on display In th window of th Patterson brothers food store, on South Elm street. It la a 100 pound cake, mad for the anniver sary of the National theater. The outside ot the glass Is dotted -with dirty little finger prints, which tells th particular class ot population such a showing attracts. The Brotherhood ef Painters, Dec orator and Paperhangers, local anion No. 717, at their meeting last night, endorsed the T. W. C. A. campaign for funds and announoed that they had made a donation to the cause. The local union also reported that all members of their affiliation were at work and that prospects of business looked good for th future. Members of the Greensboro police force will start work shortly after December 1, on a census of the city which city oflfclals hope will develop into a regular activity every two or hree years. The primary purpose of th census fe to help locate all tax Bayers, or those who should be tax payers, and to furnish data for th program ot city schools. But th actual count ing of the people within th city limits, which city officials hope and believe will be done accurately, Is ex pected to be a matter of extreme pub lic Interest. The taking of the census will be done entirely by the police force. After the first ot December a number of them will go to school to Chief George P. Crutchfield, who In other years has had much actual experi ence as a census taker for the United States government. The chief will go over carefully with the men who are to do the work th exact detail of the desired Information and hs will giver them the benefit of his experi ence'. Blanks to be used la the census are in preparation now. They will In clude a number of questions, ths an swers to which are expected to be ot Importance to th city. Under the new policy of the polio department, patrolmen are stationed Dermanentlv In each want in t,. -u. They patrol the ward regularly! Thes are th men who will take th count. Mayor Claud Riser said yee terday that he thought th visiting 6f houses would not take a. great deal of time from th patrolmen and would have the additional vain of bringing them closer In touch with th people and the people with them. At least a month will be required, he thinks,. for the enumeration. The cost to the city will be' only toe rorms ror tne questions. The In formation gained, city officials think, will more than offset this ooit. They believe that the tax revenue of Greensboro will be largely Increased. Furthermore, the count of children of specified age will be of value to school authorities In determining the program of school extension. They will know mor accurately how many new pupil may be expected each year. Builders of Beauty J.VarJjnd!e Nursery Ca Punoivi.
