Who gives himself with his alms feeds three, r Himself, his hungering neighbor, and Me." Lowell, AH THE CHRISTMAS season draws near It Is but fitting that we Kiwanians, men of like mind and common purpose, should turn our thougkts to those less fortunate than ourselves, We should devtso a definite and practical scheme, through the operation of which there will be carried on Christmas Kve into the homes of the needy, some of the true KlWanln spirit. Cast year Kiwanis responded splen didly to call for "personal service" In the matter of Christmas cheer. It is no exaggeration to say that an a result thousands upon thou sands of families who would otherwise have spent a dreary and dis appointing Christmas Day were made happy beyond words, ft The hearts of the poor and unfortunate are just as fender. If not more so, than the hearts of those blessed with worldly comforts. No Kiwanian can fully realize the bitter disappointment of parents who find (t Im possible to do the little things that would make their children feel themselves indeed a part of a world throbbing with good fellowship and merriment- Must these unfortunate parents he compelled to pass the greatest of all days with aching hearts, with tears In their eyes' instead of smlleB? Think, too, of the cruel disillusionment of the wee kiddies themselves, when their stockings are found empty and they cap only conclude that Santa Claus ha a forgotten them, ft Let us one and all play Santa Claus In very truth. Let us seek to emulate Him who is the Light of the World and carry our lights, though of lesser brightness, Into homes where distress and poverty prevail, there to grasp the shadow, roll it back, and put the ttfue Christmas spirit Into the hearts of men. Let us through kindness tune ears dulled by ad versity to catch, despite earth's vagrant noisea, the divine music of the angels as they sing on Christmas morn. May the souIk be touched, join the swelling chorus, and with fervor and new understanding sing "Glory to God in the Highest, On Earth Peace, Good Will Towards Men." Bt LLKTltf. Today: O. Henry Hotel. 'TO AID UNFORTUNATE Members of the Kiwanis Club of Greensboro have every reason to feel proud of the organiia tion's achievements during the year about to close, for under the leadership of President W, V. Preyer the club has made Itself felt In many ways as a com munity builder and helper. Not a public question of any kind has come up but that the Kiwanians have been active participants, and In every enterprise for the development of the community spirit and the welfare of the citizens of this place members of thin club have been In the thick of the fight. Truly the Kiwanis spirit has manifested Itself In various ways whenever the occasion arose, l'11 probably the most Important work that the Kiwanians have ever undertaken la their determi nation to see that the under privileged child is given a square deal. This big question occupied a conspicuous place on the pro gram of the International con vention In Toronto, Canada, last summer, and acting upon sug gestions made there and by Ki wanians here and throughout' the country, the members of the Greenxboro Kitfantu club rhave started a movement that Is bound to prove a wonderful boon to the unfortunate child, who otherwise would surely have been neglected as In the past. Oh, Ye of Little Faith. "John,"' said the teacher, "if coal Is selling at $14 a ton and you pay the dealer $65, how many tons will he send you?" "A little over three tons, ma'am." "Why.
