early yesterday morning saw Hewell's
dead body lving at a point about six
miles from New Bern. Comity Coroner
Dr. K. W. Dunn was notified and, after
empanelling a .jury he went to that place
and made an investigation.
Near Hewell's body were found two
wheels from a cart while about a mile
further on a mule and the body of the
cart were located. An examination of
the dead man's body showed that a bul
let had entered his lower left side and
penetrated through the entire body,
coming out high on the right idc
