ference yesterday in Norfolk between
the Vice-President of the Railway, the
president of the, brotherhood of the
Railway Clerks and G. Al. McAVade
representing tho I'nited States let
partment of Labor, an agreement was
reached whereby the nien were to re
turn to work this morning with the
understanding that Air. McWado'
would draw up a contract that would
ho accepted by the railroad and the
clerks. The . twenty-eight striking
clerks in Richmond returned to work
this morning, also those at Raleigh,
Hamlet and elsewhere. Under the
pending agreement the railroad will
grant concession on, several points
principally the wage question, also aa
th men working "late at night and
Sundays without extra pay.

the Norwegian steamship Aaselad of 2,

man submarine. .One boat with 111 men
was lost and the captain and tea men
were saved.
It was also announced that the Nor
wegian steamship Rein, of 1,175 tons
gross, had been sunk by a German sob
marine off Cape St. Vincent. Ten men
lost their lives and the captain and nine
others of the crew were saved.
