A party of rebels from ' Canada attempted to sur prise the. water batteries on the CiStine Road, but were driven off by the garrison! j SairarJ informed the mayor of Buffalo that information has been received at the' State depart ment that the rebel.3" in Canada have a conspiracy on foot to set lire to the principl cities on the border on the day of the Preaidentil election. Seymour has, issued a long pfoclamition urging efforts by all to discountenance of strife and disorder at the coming election, and directs sheriffs and other officers whose duty it is to keep the pesce to take care that every voter shall hava tree ballot, and see that no military or other organized force shall be allowed in the vicinity of places where elec tions are helJ with a view of menacing inlimidi ting voters. There was much excitement at Ogsdenburg, New York, regarding an expected rebel raid from Canada. Business was suspended and the citizens were preparing for defence. A large number armed men suspected to be rebels are on islands in the St. Lawrence river above and below Ogdensburg. A suspicious steamer having onboard about 50 men passed along the river close to shore. in the after noon and reported that the Tallahassee entered Dela ware break water and fired and destroyed several vessels at .anchor there, and afterwards landed at - Lewis, Delaware, and robbed the people of a large amount of property. Four vessels vere near in pur. suit of the Tallahdspee. ' ' The affairs in the Shenandoah Valley remain quiet. Nothing from Grant or Sherman.
