MR. TOBACCX) FARMER Sell Your Tobacco In SMiTHFIELD, N. C. AND TRADE WITH THE MERCHANTS LISTED BELOW Person Gounty Ousts Uqnor Interests As{ Voters Go Dry Again Person County voted to re main in the dry column last Saturday. This was the second time that the liquor interests invaded our neighboring county with the hope of installing ABC storea in another North Caro lina eoonty. However, the Person people are too wise to allow foreign in tsiwts to come into their bord ers and destroy their homes and the children for a few dollars tax money. The second defeat was Jarger than, the first, and dottbtWsi the liquor interests of Kentueky, Maryland and other liquor manufacturing companies wUl cease to disturb the peace of Fsraon for awhile. lliis is another Mtempt to lead raapectalnlity to the terri fic liqtior traffic. But the Per- BM folks were too wise to go tret vnder the disguise of hypo- etwcf. Dnriaff the same week in Dur- hsM County it was discovered that the families of bootleggers aiill selling liquor while other .emb.,. of .h,'--.jiitier’s Dropj Gasoline urums For {ilies were in prison for the same crime. So the ABC stores here |have not solved the illeg^ li quor problem. All of this, and more was promised to the peo pie of Durham and Person if they would only allow the ABC stores to handle the liquor in a decent way. So far as Durham is concern^ there are still more drunkards and hundreds of thousands of dollars sent out of the county and state to foreign interests. That does not sound like good business. In fact, the liquor business is not good busi ness in any man’s town. Man is still worth more than money to Person County, and to every other county in North Carolina. This valuation will doubtless be made on man in Durham County, John Barleycorn Harris and his cohorts notwithstanding there will of necessity be a nM essary change *of certain city and county officials to negoti ate a clean sweep of the ABC stores in Durham County. “Now is the time for all good men and women to come to the ^ aid of the party." New officers in Dur ham and Dnmrn County will naturally give us « new order. Therefore, give us new officers to protect our youth. C i Bombs Over London Adolph Hitler’s assertion that he would take London by Aug ust 15 was taken seriously by the world in view of his rapid successive capture of a numfier of other European countries. But today he is becoming a person of ridiculous considera tion as he plays boyish tricks on London. La$t night was his greatest effort on the great city. For seven hours his planes dropped gasoline drums and oth er flaring flames of supposed destruction upon the ancient city but the casualties were very small. T h fire departments were kept busy extinguishing fires where his airmen had drop ped gasoline drums from great heights by airplane. Pew people were killed, and the thousands of Londoners slept on through the night. Signs on the news stands read; “Good Yawning,” instead of “Good Morning.” This signifies that Hitler is being ta ken as a joke as he plays his fu tile boyish pranks on the Eng lish people. As tiihe goes on the most feared man on earth is fast be coming the most foolish man on earth. His hopes of winning a war are diminishing with the rapidity of the coming fall. The frost, lack of food, and foolish pranks will show to the world, including the German people, the folly of Hitler. Within his conquered territory there are 18 million people on the verge of starvation. He refused to feed them. They will soon start an internal! strife and stagnation of civilization which will des troy the hope of Hitler at home. Berlin is feeling the blasts of England's mighty air forces as they distribute the fire and thunder of war on the beautiful city which has been free of war for many years. The German people are now beginning to measure the strength of Hitler's much over rated strong arm. If he cannot keep the English air planes away from Germany, he is not powerful enough to force the hand of England abroad. The glittering medals and much over estimated honor sym bols on the breast of Hermann Goering will soon become the red rag for the bull’s 6yes in Berlin circles. All of this pomp and supposed power will become as futile as some of the fakes of the German Kaiser 22 years ago. Even the stubborn German mind cannot be fooled all the time. Among the captives from the German Army many 15 year old boys are being found. These strong soldiers of Hitler's Army in many cases are moulding in the dust of Poland, France, Bel>- gium and England. They were I slaughtered in the early period |0f the conquest with the hope of an early victory.' This too is futile. England's best still stand on every strand of her mighty Empire to defend her rights to the bitter end. The price paid for Hitler's vaunted glory is the greatest ever paid for any man’s folly. Starvation stalks the conquered countries which Hitler invaded many months ago. He has in no successful way been able to uti lize the powers obtained. These will no doubt, at the opportune moment move to England's side of the ledger. Instead of becom ing a world ruler Hitler has be come the fool of the ages. He will inadvertently bring all of his accomplishments to Eng land’s feet and make her still more mighty as an empire of power and strength while the ^ world will dub him the prince of fools. 6 AMBULANCES GO TO KENYA New York, —C— Six is^nbu- lano«> have been shipped to M'ombasa in the Kenya Colony of British fiast Africa, it was announced last week by William V. C. Ruxton, President of the British - American Ambulance Corps. Kenya is bounded on the north by Ethiopia «nd on the ealtt by Somaliland, and thus is in im minent danger of invasion from two sides, now l^at haa overrun British Somaliand, Mr. RuxtOn iatd.
