Durham Young
Minister Makes
Fine Record
Durham,—Possibly oQ® of the
most progreBsive young minist-
ler 8 oi 5jorth Carolma is Rev.
V. E. Brown, pastor of the
Orange Orove Baptist Church
of this city and the Penn Avenue
Baptist Church of Oxford.
La.st Sunday mominp a rep
resentative of the Carolina
Times visited the Orange Grove
Churcli here and found a well
rounded program in process
witli Mayor W. F. Carr, the
principal speaker. A well train
ed choir furnished music for the
occasion and decided improve
ments on the outside and inside
of the \church structure were
much in evidence.
A visit to the Penn Avenue
Baptist Church, in Oxford dis
closed a live spiritual program
going on climaxed by a rally in
which $200 was raised. The Ox
ford church is planning to raise
an additional $200 next month
after which a new choir loft and
a pastor’s study will be added
to the Ktructure.
— Rev. Brown was born in Co
lumbus County, where he receiv
ed his education. Prior to going
into the iministry he taught
school in Columbus, Marion and
Bruns^vick counties. He was or
dained for the ministry in the
Lmmber River Baptist Associa
tion, which Is one among the
largest in the state. He w'as first
called to the pastorate of his
own church, Moriah Baptist
Church. Later he was called to
the pastorate^ bf^he New Hope
Baptist Church of Fairmont. At
Fairmont he did much to im-
nrove the church structure both
inside and outside. Under his
leadership the membership in
creased in numbers and spirit.
Rev. Browft just a few weeks
ago conclud^ a revivial at
\VTiiteviUe where many were ad
ded to the church.
The success of the young mini
ster has been attributed to his
keen observation and under
standing of the-masses. He is a
believer in church improvement

Hampton Institue, Va.—Pres

In a suitemeijt released in con

learn with breathless rapidity to

and profit by all her minorities,
her foreign-born, her Jews, her
Negroes, her people'of Mexican,
Spanish, Japanese, Chinese,
European and other Asiatic de
scent.” Dr. MacLean is a spon

The educator said, “If we
sow the seed of minority sup
pression, we shall reap the whirl
wind of civil war. If we seek the
ways of peace, prosperity and
democracy, we must make full
use of all brains, of all the skill
ed hands, of all the cultures of
all people.”
