V. E. Brown, pastor of the Orange Orove Baptist Church of this city and the Penn Avenue Baptist Church of Oxford. La.st Sunday mominp a rep resentative of the Carolina Times visited the Orange Grove Churcli here and found a well rounded program in process witli Mayor W. F. Carr, the principal speaker. A well train ed choir furnished music for the occasion and decided improve ments on the outside and inside of the \church structure were much in evidence. A visit to the Penn Avenue Baptist Church, in Oxford dis closed a live spiritual program going on climaxed by a rally in which $200 was raised. The Ox ford church is planning to raise an additional $200 next month after which a new choir loft and a pastor’s study will be added to the Ktructure. — Rev. Brown was born in Co lumbus County, where he receiv ed his education. Prior to going into the iministry he taught school in Columbus, Marion and Bruns^vick counties. He was or dained for the ministry in the Lmmber River Baptist Associa tion, which Is one among the largest in the state. He w'as first called to the pastorate of his own church, Moriah Baptist Church. Later he was called to the pastorate^ bf^he New Hope Baptist Church of Fairmont. At Fairmont he did much to im- nrove the church structure both inside and outside. Under his leadership the membership in creased in numbers and spirit. Rev. Browft just a few weeks ago conclud^ a revivial at \VTiiteviUe where many were ad ded to the church. The success of the young mini ster has been attributed to his keen observation and under standing of the-masses. MacLean of Hampton Institute said today that if there is a major under lying cause for tlie present cris is, it is the misunderstanding and mis treat^nt of our minori ty groups^^mtilie world. In a suitemeijt released in con nection with^ational “Ameri cans All” Week, which opens today, the Hampton Institute ed ucator said that, “America must learn with breathless rapidity to enfold, absorb and make ues of and profit by all her minorities, her foreign-born, her Jews, her Negroes, her people'of Mexican, Spanish, Japanese, Chinese, European and other Asiatic de scent.” Dr. MacLean is a spon sor of National “Americans All" Week, which was organiz ed by the Am'^rican Committee for Protection of Froeign-Bom The educator said, “If we sow the seed of minority sup pression, we shall reap the whirl wind of civil war. If we seek the ways of peace, prosperity and democracy, we must make full use of all brains, of all the skill ed hands, of all the cultures of all people.” HAMPTON SENDS REPRESENTATIVE TO NASHVILLE MEETING Hampton Institute, Va.—Hu- bert E. WhitaJcer, Project Sup ervisor of the Hadley School, Nashville, Tennessee, has been sleeted by Hampton Institute to act as its offical delegate to the Third Southern Conference on Tomorrow’’s Children, which will open its two day meeting in Nashville on October 31. Mr. Whitaker is a graduate of Ham pton Institute and has been a leader in sotithern e ducation since receiving his B. S. from the Tidewater '.Virginia college. and where ever he has w'orked things have usually improved spiritually, numerically and fi nancially.
