Selectees Have Ri^ht To Appeal Ftom Decision Of Ih'aft Boards Say Anny Men The right of appeal is guacw- teed every registrant, Major Campbell C. Johnson, Executive Assistant to the Dir^or of Nat ional Selective Service Head quarters, emphasized today. With approximately 8,000,000 men classified by Local Boards on the basis of their availability for military service, reititively" few appeals have been made to Selective Service Boards of Ap peal, and to the President*' jor Johnson said. Of these, he asserted, only a small number have been taken by Negro regis trants, even in States which havenotiee of appeal or bv siguing that L^l are not infallifile,^^ individual rights are best protectied when- a check is made.” It was its in tention to make certain that all r^istrants, their dependents and others interested in their welfare have e^ery opportunity to obtain review of dassifica^ ions they consider unjust. An appeal to ttie Bb«W of Ap peal can be made by the regis trant, his dependents and others interested in his welfare by sim ply filing in the time allowed, with the local board a written large Negro populations. Major Johnson, pointed out, that while the duty of being in formed falls firet and foremost on each registrant that, never- the less, this may be due to a lack of knowledge on the part of iNegro registrants of their right to. make an appeal from the Lo cal Board’s classification. . “Congress,” he continued, LANCE, Inc. “Mm of DeMous Toastchee” sie to C.
