GARDEN CLUB
The Year Round Garden Club
met Monday evening with Mrs.
Annie Mayo, hostess. Mrs. Roxie
Davis, president, presided over
the business deliberations. Mrs.
Mary Green opened the Garden
Gate by the singing of the club
song, followed by prayer, pledge
and motto. Mrs. Lottie Lowe,
secretary, gave minutes and re
ports of previous meetings.
Mrs. Emma Randolph gave a
report on pledges and amounts
paid to date on special project of
the club. The flower show com
mittee made a report that the
flower show will be held Sun
day, October 16 from 2 to 5
P. M., at the Harriet Tubman
Branch YWCA on Umstead St.
We shall look forward with
much enthusiasm to this grand
event and include this date as
a “MUST” on our calendars.
(The Program Committee had
selected three members from the
club to bring helpful hints and
suggestions at this time. Mrs.
Farrison received and refreshed
memory on the selection, pre
paration, care and planting and
grouping of bulbs and Mrs. Hen
derson on the usefulness as well
as beauty of fruit trees as a
background for gardens.
Mrs. Dovie Grady Avas guest
of the club and her remarks were
enjoyable. Hhe gave her husband
credit for being the gardener in
the family.
Members who had been absent
on account of vacation or illness
were welcomed back. During the
social hour a most most delicious
repast of salad, sandwiches,
punch, homemade ice cream and
cake, nuts and candles was en
joyed by the following:

president. Prayer was led by
Mrs. Mamie Smith. Bible verses
were repeated by all the mem
bers.
The minutes of the last meet
ing were received and adopted
with the necessary corrections.
The new business was that of
the Trade Week program. It
was suggested by Mrs. DeShazor
Jackson and adopted by the
group that members of the. Lea
gue become matrons of the Miss
Trade Week contestants and
the matron be given a trip to
the National Conycntion to be
held in 'I'uskegee.
This contest is to be given to
the members of ttie Business
Chain and Housewive League.

crowned during the halftime, a-

leatured a fitted bodice with a

ered buttons fastened the gown
in the back, and the sleeves end
ed iu calla points over the
wrists. The long full ruffled skirt
fell into a court train. Her fin
gertip veil of french illusion fell
from a heart shaped headress
encrusted with seed pearls ^d
orange blossoms. She wore a
single strand of pearls, a gift of
the groom. She carried an arm
bouquet of white bridal roses
centered with an orchid.
Attending the bride as matron
of honor was her sister, Mrs.
Henrietta Clements. Sne wore
a lavender satin gown, featuring
a fitted bodice, sherred dropped
shoulders and full gathered
skirt with bands of lace insert
ed over hoops. Full length satin
gloves completed the costume.
Her headress was a bandeau
of lavender maline with pink
rose buds.
The bride’s attendants wore
dresses of turquoise blue, pink
satin fashioned similar to the
maid of honor’s dress. They wore
lace mitts and headresses of
lavender maline with rose buds.
