Mr. and Mrs. Cardoza Mc Collum motored to Bennetts- ville, S. C- Sunday and spent the day with family members. They were dinner guests of Dr. and Mrs. Lawrence McCollum. Jimmy Harris and friend, Dick Douglass of Cleveland, Ohio spent a few days in the city visiting Jimmy’s family. They were the house guests of the Ren cher Harrises. Frances Ransuer of Atlanta, Georgia is spending a few days in the city and is the house guest of Dr. and Mrs. R. P. Randolph. “LITTLE SLAMS” Mrs. Berhardine Bailey en tertained her bridge club “The Little Slams” and guests play ers Saturday evening in the pri vate dining room of the Bilt- more Hotel. BENCHWARMERS - The Benchwarmers met again Monday night at the Biltmore lIot«l where a group of forty or more football enthuasiats were entertained' by Coach Herman Riddick of the North Carolina College Eagles as speaker, and his assistants who sliowed pic tures of the North Carolina Col lege-Jlorgan game. Coach Rid dick outlined Ihe program and hopes for the development of better teams at North Carolina College, but indicated that the Athletic development must go hand in hand in scholarly at tainments. Before adjournment the group enjoyed steak plates. Pops Turner is president of the organization and LeRoy Walk er is program chainnan. LAYMEN’S LEAGUE The Laymen’s League of St. Titus P. E. Church met in reg ular monthly meeting Tuesday evening w'ith R. C. Foreman at big home on Otis Street'. Dr. Percy Young, president, presided over the business. After a full report and dis cussion on church matters the group enjoyed a most delicious' repeat of barbecued ribs "Louis iana style” and all the trim mings. League members attending were: R. C. W^. Perry, W. A. Kenny, J. S. Thompson, C. A. Lauier, W.' J. Walker, 11.. N. Harris, F. C. Hunter and Ron ald Foreman, Jr. Mr. and Mrs. Curtis Wilson and children, C’atherine Reese and Curtis, Jr., accompanied by Mrs. Conseula Foreman return ed to New York Thursday. Mrs. Foreman will visit her sister and brother-in-law. Mi', and Mrs. Garland Lambert. Miss Fannie O’Baunon who is teaching in thfe high school in Newport News, Virginia, spent the week-end with her family. Dr. and Mrs. W. H. Robinson. Mrs. Savado Jones of Wash ington, D. C. has returned to her home after spending the sunnner with her sister, Mrs. W. H. Morgan of Morrisville, Route One. ■’ Miss Alma Morgan, student at Shaw University, spent the week-end with her parents, Mr. and Mrs. W'^. H. Morgan and Miss Tempie Morgan of Dur ham. UP-TO-DATE GALEDA The Up-To-Date Galea Club of the Union Baptist Church lieM its regular monthly meet ing Thursday night at the home of Mrs. Mamie Holland, 317 Gray Street. The meeting was opened in its usual manner with Mfs. Lu- cilla Fuller, president, presid ing. After a brief business discus sion, Mrs. Holland proved a de lightful hostess. Her home was b^utifuUy decorated with fall cut flowers. She carried out the Halloween spirit. A delicious course consisting of barbecued chicken, ham, peas, carrots, rolls, coffee, ambrosia and cake was enjoyed. Those enjoying Mrs. Hol land’s hospitality were; Mes- dames Lucilla Fuller, Doris Hol land, Mozelle Thompson, Maude Albright, J a n e t. Holeman, Wilma Mihun, Lottie Adams, Eldna Fuller, Dorothy Allen, Lillie Catlett, Pauline Hart, Laura Davis, Minnie Fikes, Dora Jones, Elizabeth Lewis, (Jertrude Stubbs, Pearl Davis, Addie Mack. Visitors were: Mesdauies Sarah Cates, John McElhvaiue of Salisbury, Hall of New York. Mrs. Holland was assisted in serving by her mother, Mrs. Narcisus Adams, Mrs. Dorothy Allen, Mrs. Irvin Allen. CHURCH IN DURHAM Sunday, October 2nd was a high day in the Pinecrest Com munity. At 3 P. M. history was made by the opening services of Faucette’s Memorial C. M. E. Chui’ch. Rev. J. N. Levertte, pastor of the church, designed and constructed the Edifice, which is a beautiful structure. The church is located »n Pine Crest Drive in a thriving com munity on a lovely site. F, 11. Alston was great as master of ceremony. Many out standing citizens of Durham participated on the program, all giving high respect and honor to the great life work of the late Ernest Faucette, in whose memory the church was erected.
