Mrs. Hamlett who is leaving the city for a year's rest and study will Join her husband in New York. The Hamlett's will reside with Mrs. Hamlett's sister, Mrs. Lord Byron Ryan, whose home is located in Hempstead, New York. Guests were cordially received and directed to the dining room where the Uble was beautifully set up with u palatable ser vice. Dancing and other entertainment were thoroughly enjoyed by the group. Out of town guests for the occasion were Miss Mary Humbles, Mrs. Willie H. Hutchison, Lewis Johnson all of Lynch burg and Mrs. Janet Marchena of Raleigh. On April 6 the Durham Domestic Club met at the home of Mrs. Mattie Whitfield, 621 Bernice Str^t, with Mrs. Helen Ballard as co-hostess. After devotionals, a brief business session was held presided over by the president, Mrs. Louise Pierce. The hostesses welcomed everyone and the Easter motif was carried out in a beautiful manner. Afthe close of the meeting, a delicious repast was served to the following members, Mesdames Zebbie Archie, Estella Watkins, Louise Pierce, Henrietta Snipes, Leora Jones, Almeta Hinton, Maggie Williams, Misses Drucilla Wade,'Gladys Sneed and Rozetta Moore. The next meeting will be held May 4 at 3 p. m. at the DoNut Shpp with Mesdames Archie and Spain as hostesses. The Easter Egg hunt given by the Goodwill Club on Easter Monday at the home of Mrs. M. T. Williams was sponsored by the Men's Faithful Community Club of Pearsontown of which Brooks Earls is president. Friends and neighbors furnished cars and trucks to take the children to and from the hunt. Sunday, May 11, a Mothers Day program will be given at Mount Gilead Baptist Church in Orange County. Dinner will be served picnic style on the grounds. Everyone is cordially invited to attend. Interested members and friends of the Mount Gilead Baptist Church of Orange County are asked to come to the church, Friday and Saturday before the first Sunday in May, to help clean the church and beautify the cemetery. . Mrs. Ida Lee Scurlock, Miss Georgie C„ Anna Elaine, and Ennis visited Mr. and Mrs. J. H. Pearly on Crest Street recently. Mr. Pearly is a brotljer to Mrs. Scurlock. I'l. Mrs. James Taylor and Miss Constance Young wer,e among the more than 300 church women who attended the Seventieth Annual Diocesan meeting of the Womans Auxiliary held in the Church pf the Good Shepard, Rocky Mount, last week. Mrs. Taylor, the United Thank Offering Custodian of St. Titus Church and former District Chairman, shared in the glorious pre sentation of the U. T. O. at the Corporate Communion service. The offering of thousands of dollars were laid in the historic Golden Alms Basin used at all general conventions. At this annual meeting there were notables from National Headquarters, Bishops and Clergy who spoke, as well as Diocesan Churchmen and women, among them Miss Young. Miss Young was also elected as a delegate to the General Con vention which meets in Boston, Mass., in September. She will also attend a Department of Christian Education Wx>rkshop in Atlanta in June. At this Annual in Rocky Mount, all of the women, throughout the Diocese, were gra'&ku^y received and highly en tertained, aside from full participatil|ji in all of the services, at dinners, luncheons at the Church of The Good Shepard, and in the sight^ing tour. Next year’s meeting will be held in St. Martin’s Charlotte. Woods of Chicago, III. The prospective bride is a graduate of Talladega College, Talladega, Ala., and is currently employed as Music Instructor at the Whitted School in Durham. She Is a member of the Delta Sigma Theta Sorority. She Is a granddaughter of the late Mr. and Mrs. John H. Atwater of Durham and the late Mrs. Elisa beth J. Harris of Augusta, Geor gia. Mr. Murray also a graduate of Talladega College Is a student of the Chlcago-Kent Law School and a government employee. He is a member of the Omega Psl Phi Fraternity and served In the Air Force for three years. He is the grandson of Mrs. A. S. John son of Gary, Ind., and Chicago. The Sunshine Committee was indeed full of many and varied kindnesses and services rendered the sick, shut-ins and unfortunates. Mrs. Veora Bynum was given a gift of one day’s stay in the hospital. Much fun was had when the group entered into a weighing party where they paid into the treasury a penny per pound. Miss Marie Faulk, was the official weigh taker. Guests sharing the evenings fun with Mrs. Harris and Utopia members were: Mesdames Gladys McKinnie, Lil Farrington, Con- suella Foreman, Hattie Meadows, Carrie Burch, Fannie Robinson, Miss Marie Faulk. Irvin Lowe of the American Tobacco Company visited the glub and distributed Lucky Strike cigarettes to the delight of the ladies. Mrs. Alice Farrison proved a charming hostess indeed Satur day evening when she entertained her bridge club “The Merry Wives” in her home on N. C. College Campus. Beautiful roses and irises from her garden were artistically arranged throughout the home. Tables were set up for service for twelve and at each place a rose corsage.
