WATSON HOSTESS TO PEARSONTOWN COMMUN- m CLUB — On Monday night, May 5, the Pearsontown Com munity Club met at the home of Mrs. France* Watson on Cecil Street. The meeting was presided over by the vice-president, Mrs. Gilchrist. After the business session a very interesting Mothers’ Day program Atkras rendered. Later the hostess, assisted by Mrs. Noel served a delicious repast. Those present were: Mesdames Ada Meeks, Rosa Gilchrist, Effie Roberson, Lizzie Cannady, Minnie Wilson, Geneva Cheek, Cora Edwards, A. Whitted, J. E. Tuck, Ida Davis, Dora Green, Jessie Moore, Beatrice Noel and Frances Watson. Our next meeting will be with Mrs. Audrey Whitted on Fay- ville Street. THE WILLIAMS FAMILY CIRCLE met In its May meeting Thursday evening with Mr. and Mrs. Jessie Lassiter in Chatham County. The meeting was presided over by the vice-president, Mrs. Rada Prince. Minutes and reports were given by the secre tary, Mrs. Thelma Hill. At the close of the business a social hour was enjoyed, during which time a salad, chocolate and pineapple cake and lemonade was served. There were around twenty-five family members present. The June meeting will be with Mr. and Mrs. James Mitchell. ALEASE McKINNIE AND MRS. ULIAN McKAY prov ed charming hostesses on Tuesday, April 29 when they entertain ed members of the A. and B. Missionary Circle at the home of Mrs. McKay on Dunston Street. The living room was beautiful through out with arrangements of roses that lent a festive air to the oc casion. The devotion was conducted by Mrs. Mildred Williams followed by Bible quotations by all beginning with the letter M. At the completion of the devotional service, the social hour follow ed where numbers were drawn for two door prizes which lovely gifts were presented Mrs. Martha Armstrong and Mrs. Lubertha Buie. At this point the Scrap Party began and each member paid SO cents to choose his favorite scrap of material from a box trying to match 5 yards of material wrapped in a beautiful package. The winner being Mrs. Hattie Geer. Proceeds from the party will go to the clubs treasury. I The hostess assisted by Mrs. Elveta Monroe served a delicious dinner. CLABK of East Pettigrew Street was called to Cleveland, Tenn., on account of the death of one of her relatives. She will return to the city the latter part of the week. MRS. CHINA ROBERSON, wife of he late Benton'Roberson, celebrated her 80th birthday here Friday, May 2nd. She received many lovely cards and gifts which she enjoyed. Mrs. Roberson’s children and grandchildren all joined in to celebrate this day with her. SCHOOLMASTER DISCUSS SCHOOL PHILOSOPHY Member of the local Schoolmasters Club held their final meet ing for the present school year on Tuesday, AprU 29 at the Rose Room on Fayetteville Road, with Professor E. W. Midgette as hostess. Professor J. M. Schooler, principal of Whitted School led the discussion on “The Need Of A Philosophy In Each Individual School.” After there was a roundtable discussion by the School masters. During this question and answer period the following points were emphasized: 1. Every school should have a cooperative worked out philosophy based on the needs of the pupils, parents and teachers. 2. The 10 school areas in which the individual school philo sophy should function are: a. Health of the pupils, parents and teachers. b. Educational guidance c. Spiritual values d. Extra curricular activities e. Classroom operation f. Selection of visual aid " g. Library period h. Cafeteria period i. Auditorium period j. Playground period The following officers were elected to serve for the 19S2-53 school year: President, J. W. Davidson; Vice-President, J. M. Schooler; Secretary-Treasurer, Mrs. Cora T. THE SILVIA WILLIAMS MISSIONARY CIRCLE of White Rock Baptist Church had a delightful meeting in the home of Mrs. Nettie Burch on Carrol Street, Sunday aftembon. The topic for discussion “Mother of the Bible,” led by Mrs. Beatrice Bass and discussed by Mrs. Hattie Boykins, Mrs. Virginia Alston and Mrs. Nora Leathers. After the business session the group was served a delicious repast. Those present were Mesdames Nora Leathers, Virginia Alston, Lula Green, Hattie Boykins, Katie Kirby, Lenora Blalock, Beatrice Bass, Nettie Burch and visiting guest. CLARENCE FAUCETTE dt Dayton, Ohio, son of the late Earnest Faucette of Durham, was married recently to Mrs. Doris M. Faulkner, widow of the late Reverend A. W. Faulkner. The vows were read by Reverend R: C. Brown of Connersville, Indiana in the presence of a few friends and members of the inunediate family. Mrs. Faucette is a graduate of Central State College, a former Social Worker in the Juvenile Court and a member of Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority. The couple will make their home at 24 South Second Street, Richmond, Indiana. Rev. War ren Public Library. Monday evening, May 12, at eight o’clock Rev. Harold Roland, pastor of Mt. Gilead Baptist Church, will review “Spark Of Life” by Erich Maria Remarque. Delta Sigma ' Theta Soriirity began its May Week celebration by worshiping in a body at St. Titus Episcopal Church Sunday, May 4, at the eleven o’clock servic^. There were seven of her ten children present: Mrs. P. C. Lewter, Mrs. Trannie Thomp son, Mrs C. R. Lassiter, C. B. Horton and N. B. Horton all of Apex, Route 3, Rev. R. U. Hor ton of Plttsboro and C. T. Hor ton of Durham. Twenty—^five grandchildren and one great grandchild were also present. Mrs. Horton received many beautiful greetings and lovely gifts. Everyone wished her many more happy birthdays. is much Improved now. Mrs. Fannie Mae Thomas spent the weekend of April 27 in Louisburg visiting friends. Lewis Albert Farrow and Miss Beatrice Edwards were recently married. The couple are residing with Mr. Farrow’s parents, Mr. and Mrs. Johnie Farrow. A banquet will be held along with the PTA on Thursday eve ning May*15 at 7:'30 o’clock at the Hinton Beckwith School. Mr. and Mrs. J. C. Spinks spent Sunday in Reidsvllle Visi ting Mrs. Spinks’ mother and sister. Wednesday April 30 at 7:30 p. m., Mr. and Mrs. Oscar Far row gave a surprise birthday supper in honor ol Mr. Farrow’s mother, Mrs. Abe Farrow on her 53 birthday. Mrs. Elmer Cousin greeted the guest at the door. The beautiful birthday cake was decorated with white blue and pink candles.
