The Union was first organized in 1925. The anniversary speaker will'be Dr. AUonso Elder, president of North Carolina College at Durham. Others appearing on the program will be Dr. C. E. McLester, Pastor; Mrs. M. W. Webb, Recording Secretary of- tl.e Durham Ushers Union; Miss Barbara Ray, North Carolina College; James Morris, President of the Junior Usher Board, White Rock Baptist Church, and State Oratorical Contest winner; Miss Ella Britton, and W. J. Kennedy., Jr., president. North Carolina Mutual Life Insurance Company. ENTERTAINS CLUB MEMBERS AND FRIENDS—Mrs. Dora W. Green proved a charming hostess indeed Friday evening when she entertained the Utopia Club and a number of her friends at her home, 2237 Fayetteville Street. The meeting was presided over by the president, Mrs. Mabel Mabry. A most inspirationa* devotion, the theme, “Thanksgiving” was given by Mrs. Essie Cur ry. Minutes and reports were given by the secretary, Mrs. Lena Richardson. The Budget Committee made its report and said bud get was unamiously accepted and adopted. Plans were perfected for the Thanksgiving cheer. Mrs. Vivian F. Stowe was reinstated . and two new members were accepted, Mrs. Hallie Dillahunt and Mrs. Elnora Smith. I At the close of the business, a social hour was enjoyed during which time Mesdames Madge Turner, Thelma Hill and Stella Alston served a most delicious repast of chicken salad, potato chips, radish | rose, Carrot sticks, hot biscuits, russian tea, ambrosia and pound cake. There will be a Cabaret Party presented by DeShazor’s Alumni Local Number Nine, Monday evening, November 24 at 8:30 o’clock at the Union Hall on Pine Street. Latest fashions and hair styles will be shown. Also a stag show, and dancing. Come out for a night of enjoyment. SPENT WEEK-END IN CITY—George E. Watts of Norfolk, Virginia, was week-end house guest of Mr. and Mrs. Joe Biggers on Bernice Street. Mr. Watts is a sales representative for the Rupert Brewing Company. MRS. SCHOOLER HOSTESS TO MERRY WIVES—The Merry Wives Bridge Club met Saturday evening ‘ with Mrs. Frances Schooler at the Algonquin Club House. Before play began a de lectable and appetizing course was enjoyed. Four progressions of bright were played and scores ran very high. High scorer for the evening was Mrs. Alice Farrison and she captured the first prize. Mrs. Fannie Robinson came in for second place and received sec ond ^ri^ A most delightful evening was spent by the group at the Club House. All the Merry Wives were present save one, Mrs. Lola Riddick. She was at the West Virginia-North Carolina Col lege gam^ giving her hubby moral support. DISTRICT NUMBER EIGHT MEETS WITH MRS. FULLER— District Number Eight of White Rock Baptist Church held its regularly monthly meeting Sunday afternoon with Mrs. Jennie Fuller, 402 Linwood Avenue. The meeting was presided over by the leader, Mr^ Addie Torrence. Mrs. Torrence lead the devotions using songs “Its Real” and "Jesus Keep Me Near The Cross.” The lesson taken from the Secret Place, “But If Any One Does Sin,” \yas abely discussed by big brother W. The devotion was led by Hal Royster, after which the meeting was presided over by the president. Miss Ceola Rosemond. Plans were discussed for the annual Christmas banquet. An interesting topic was discussed on the “Expansion of Adult Education,” which was enjoyed by everyone. The hostess served a delectable buffet supper to the following club members: Mrs. Ruby Dasher, instructor; Mrs. Cora Bost, Mrs. Sarah Allen, Mrs. Claytee Mitchell, Mrs. Louise French, Miss Ceola Rosemond, Miss O. Rogers, Burch Coley, Matthew Mitchell, Hay Royster, Richmond Williams, Eddie French, Rev. C. V. McCoy and the hostess. Miss Sadie Bradley. The Junior Dorcas Club met recently at the home of Mrs. Nevater Wall, 407 Brant Street the devotional, a brief business session was entered into. At the close of the meeting, the hostess served refreshments. The next meeting will be at the home of Mrs. Nellie Williams, 905 Whitted Street, at which time. Miss Ruth Rush will be guest speaker. MRS. ROGERS HOSTESS TO GARDEN CLUB—The Lyon Park Rose Garden Club met Monday night, November 10 at the home of Mrs. J. Q. Rogers on Milton Avenue. The home was beau tifully decorated with fall flowers. The meeting was opened in the usual manner with the president, Mrs. Sophronia Green, pre siding. Officers for 1953 were installed with a most impressive installation ceremony being conducted by Mrs. J. Q. Rogers. The lausiness session was then presided over by the new president, Mrs. Alice Jones, who made a very Interesting talk to the Gardeners. She also presented an outline of by-laws for the year. At the close of the meeting the guests were Invited into the dining room and delicious refreshments were served. Mrs. Fan nie Tapp thanked the hostess for her wonderful hospitality.
