CHAMBERLIN STUDIO NEWS Pupils from the studio who participated in the state music festival on April 23, in Fayetteville were: Rebecca Saunders from Washington High l^hool in Raleigh, Bernice Mitchell, Hillside High School, Durham; Ruth Baines, Hill side, Aubra White, Hillside, Patricia Spaulding, Whitted, Beulah Brodie, and Grace Davis, Mary Potter, Oxford, N. C. All won rating of “Good” Through “Excellent.” Charles (Bobby) Alston who attended the Chamberlin Studio is now at Fisk University, A letter received recently by Mrs. Shearin from Dr. John Work, the head of Fisk’s music department stated: “Your protege and former stu dent, Charles Alston is a gem.” He is doing very well. He appeared on the student recital last week, even though he had spent eight days in the hospital. Tonight he played again. He played the Mozart’s “Rondo.” On each occasion he did a most creditable job. We need more students like him. The Honor Roll of the Chamberlin Studio. Present at this meeeting were Mesdames Zelma Adams, Ice- leen Josey, Effie Chavis, Della Hubbard, Carrie McCaskill, Hel en Lash, Addie Barbee, Martha Stanley, Annabelle Carrick and Mildred Mangum. The hostess served refresh ments of iced tea and cookies. Another auxiliary of the Ebe nezer Church, the Soul Seekers Sunday School class, met with Mrs. Helen Battles at 1223 Rose wood avenue on Saturday, April 27. Present at this meeting were Mesdames Addie Barbee, Martha Stanley, Annabelle Carrick and Mildred Mangum. A niece of Mrs. Battle and W. W. Barbee visited with the class at the meeting. A round of chicken salad, let tuce, crackers, olives pickles, potato chips and ice cream was served. YWCA Meeting Scheduled Here Mrs. Robert E. Retired Cleric Is Feted Here April 20 Monday evening, April 20, the Gleaners Circle of the Covenant Presbyterian Church honored the Reverend John Lee White on the anniversary of his birth- The affair was held at the church and was attended by the Reverend White’s friends and relatives. A short program pre- ceeded the serving of refresh ments. Mrs. I, H. Russell acted as mistress of ceremonies. She also presented a purse of $40.35, which was given by members of the church and the Reverend White’s friends. These two groups recently made a trip to Easley Baby Wins Top Prize In Tots Contest Little Wyvetta Al-Vera Eas ley, seven months old daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Waverly Eas ley, was victorious in the ninth annual “Better Baby” contest climaxed here last Sunday at the Stanford L. Warren Li brary. The winner was selected on ^ the basis of the most votes sold in her name. For the winning efforts on her behalf, her proud parents received in her name a $50 War Bond and a tinted picture mounted in a gold frame from Stanback studios. Second, third and fourth place runners-up Were, in order, Ed ward Royal>- Boyd, son of Mr. and Mrs. Edward Boyd, Lewis Edward Justice, Jr., son of Mr. and Mrs. L. E. Justice; and Kathy Evan McLeod, son of Mr. and Mrs. Garson McLeod. Prizes werfe presented by Mrs. Pearl Grigsby at the library. Sunday afternoon. Also on the program were Y. J. Grigsby, J. D.
