Clement were happy to have their parents as their house guests for Thanksgiving. Visiting were Mr. and Mrs. W. A. Dobbs of Atlanta, Georgia. On Wednesday evening Mr. and Mrs. Clement were at home to a few friends and neighbors who came in to greet their guests. They were assisted by Miss Helen Clement, Mesdames C. D. Watts and W. L. Dooms. HOUSEGUEST Mrs. Lucreia Paschell of Washington, D. C. has been the house Kuest of Mr. and Mrs. Samuel Paschell of 824 Ridgeway Avenue. CHICAGOAN VISITS Mrs. Gertrude Moore of Chicago, Illinois was the houseguest of her sister and brother-in-law, Mr. and Mrs. G. Wendell White Thanksgiving Week. During her stay here Mrs. Moore was the honored guest at breakfasts, luncheons and dinners and the Thanksgiving Football Classic. She was also the recipient of many beautiful gifts. She left Friday evening for a visit to New York and Boston before returning to Chicago. WEEK-END GUEST Mrs. N. S. Lennard of Fayetteville was the week-end guest of her mother and father Rev. and Mrs. Stewart of Lawson Street. GARDEN CLUB The XiXOO £uiHRbse Garden Club met Monday evening, No vember 23 at 7-^ o’clock at the home of Mrs. Josephine Hoskins. The meeting was otscned in the usual manner. Mrs. Alice Jones presided over the busih«ss session at which time various chairmen gave their reports. The reports of the nominating committees were presented to the group. The floor was opened to discussion and a vote taken. The list was accepted. Mrs. Jones expressed gratitude for the group's work and cooperation for the past year. The birthday box game played by the members was very satisfactory. Plans for the Christmas party were discussed and the exchanging of Christmas gifts. The Christmas meeting will be held December 14 with Mrs. Sadie Mebane. At this point mem bers were invited to the dining room for refreshments. The table was completely filled with fruit and vegetables carry ing the Thanksgiving motif. A salad course was served to ap proximately 23 members. Miss Alene Mebane thanked the hostess for such royal hospitality. After the social hour the club members went into the work shop and began making Christmas corsages under the supervision of Mrs. Elnora Smith, who showed the group how corsages could be made without too much trouble and expense. SAINT JOSEPH PASTOR’S AID CLUB Thursday evening, November 19, 1953 Mrs. Annie L. Alston was hostess' to the Pastor’s Aid Club of Saint JosepU A. M. E. Church at their home 1410 Fayetteville Street. The meeting was presided over by Mrs. Annie L. Alston, presi dent. After a period of devotionals, reports from sick and shut ins, a brief discussion, the meeting was turned into a Social hour. The hostess served ice cream, jello, home made cup cakes of various colors which were enjoyed by all present. Members present were Mesdames Laura Bailey, Lucy Briggs, Florence Carter, Ella McLaughlin, Allie Mitchell, Carrie Rigsbee, Eva Thompson, Laura Stronghorn, and Allie L. Alston, hostess. The next meeting will be held at the home of Mrs. Carrie Rigs bee, 1215 Mason Street, November 26, 1953. Thursday, Thanksgiving Day, Mrs. Carrie Rigsbee, 1215 Mason Street entertained the Pastor’s Aid Club of Saint Joseph A. M. E. Church and friends in a very spiritual Thanksgiving featuring testmionial service, remarks, Bible study, expressions, special Bible _ h^mn singing. Greer Gadsden spent Thank* giving in Savannah, Georgia, with her grandparents, Mr. and Mrs. R. W. Gadsden and Mr. and Mrs. R. W. Spencer. Greer is the daughter of Attorney and Bars. E. H. Gadsden. _ I Jimmy Lee attended the Mid- Atlantic Teen-Age Regional Conference of Jack and Jill, held in Newport News, Virginia. The theme of the conference was: Teen-Age Manners and Social Graces. Lee, 1‘epresented the Durham Chapter of Jack and Jill. Geraldine Saunders has been unable to attend school on ac count of illness. Joycelyn McKissick of 1123 Roxboro Street had a visit fr«n her cousin, Cynthia Gale Willi ams. She was accompanied by her grandmother. They are both from Asheville, N. C. Evelyn and Booker Kennedy, with their mother, father and grandmother, visited their aunt and uncle, Mr. and Mrs. Atkin son of Roanoke, Virginia, over potato salad, and slaw. Persons present enjoyed Mrs. Rigsbee's hospitality were Mes dames Annie L. Alston, Laura Bailey, Lucy Briggs, Florence Car ter, Lillie Dyson, Allie Mitchell, Cl^istine McAdams, Ora Rey nolds, Laura Strayhorn, Marmda Norman, Mary B. Robbins, Kattie Watk^, Mr. Robert Hyman, Isaac Alston, guest: Mr. Dave Kimble of Burlington. A wonderful Thanksgiving Prayer Service was enjoyed by all present with Mrs. Rigsbfee. The next meeting will be announced later. VISITS IN NORFOLK, VIRGINIA Mrs. Adell W. Morris spent Thanksgiving holidays in Nor folk, Virginia visiting her mother, brothers, and other rela,tive| and friends. ’ Velma Jean Morris accompanied Mrs. Morris. Brown, Director of the Bureau Educational Re search at North Carolina Col lege, will be the principal speak er at the second meeting of the Durham Association of Public School Teachers, which will be held Monday, December 7, 1953 in the Auditorium of the W. G. Pearson School at 4:00 o’clock p. m. The announcement was made Monday by Howard Alston of Hillside School and President of the Association.
