Mel vin was four on Sunday and Gil bert was three on Monday, the 14th. The cake bad seven can dles on it, four pink ones and three blue ones. The party was held on Melvin’s birthday this year; next year it will be on Gilbert’s birthday, as they cele brate on alternating birthdays -from year to year. The Brownies and Girl Scouts of Durham had their annual “Birds Christmas Tree” cere monies on the lawn of Lincoln hospital December, 1953. They made chains of. popcorn and other foods for the birds. They sang Christmas Carols after the chains were hung by a member of the Fire Department. Mrs. Morrison's class at W. G. Pearson School gave a play for Christmas at the December P. T. A. meeting on Thursday, Dec. 17, 10S3. The play was about the story of Christ. The narrators were Gloria Dickens, Hattie Perry, Sandra Coleman, Betty McAllister, Barbara Weaver, Pearly Shaw, James White, Shirley Malette. A group of children from the fourth grade sang, “This Is the Day the Child was Bom.” A group from the fifth grade sang, “When Joseph Was A Walking,” and a group from the sixth grade led “Oh, Come, All Ye Faithful,” “Fairest Lord Jesus,” and "Silent Night. Girl Scout Troop 55 of White Rock ChUrch made Christmas decorations for Christmas trees at the Children’s Ward of Lin coln Hospital. The Chamberlin Studio taught by Mrs. M. S. Shearin gave its annual Christmas Re cital Simday, December 20, at St. Joseph Church in honor of Mrs. Mary Christmas Evans who was bom on Christmas day. The following children took part: Patricia Bowling, Winnefred McQueen, Eldee Brown, Jesse Parker, Virginia Stephens, Glo ria Weaver, Jqcqueliae Thom- oR, C .itjl Holmes, Gloria Evans, Anita Parker, Evelyn Kennedy; Claudine Daye, Bennie Booker, Helen Davis, Betty Jo Goodloe, Sherrill Schooler, E^r Pugh, Sylvia Bailey, Willie Mae Bai ley, Charles Sttmback, Jr., Au- bra White, Velda White, Velma Jean Morris, Carolyn Thornton, Patricia Spaulding, Reginald Rogers, Jacqueline Glenn and Lana Thompson. c^lphristmas Play, "The Other ,vfte Man” by Henry Van Dyke, will be given at White Rock Church on Christmas Day at 0 o’clock. It will be directed by Mrs. Geneva Cheek. The second and third grades of Walltown School presented a pageant Friday evening under the direction of Messrs. Jackson Jemison. The main characters were Jimmie Albright, Dorothy Amey, Algen Holloway, Major Johnson, Robert Thomas, Elaine Richardson, Melva Jean Daye, Alberta Allen, Ingrid Landis, Mildred Ferrell, Frankie Rich ardson, Charles Wall, Bettie Cameron, Andry Mitchell, Glo-‘ ria Collins, Marie Dfiniels, Mel vin Whitted, Warren Leggett, Araita Brane, Marvin Berthea, Ernest Thompson. All of the other members of the class as sisted with the chorus. Charles Wall of Third Sti^t played Santa Claus. Richard Boyd of Dunston St. has been absent from school on account of illness. He is in the fourth grade. Although he was unable to attend the Christmas party, his gifts were sent to him. Marion Alexander and her brother from Louisiana who have been attending fourth grade at Whitted School have returned to their home in Lou isiana. Misses Moore and Brewer are both students at New Classroom At Second Ward Is Opened CHARLOTT* The newly renovated food and nutritition classroom of Second Ward High School was fomudly opened recently with a cofleei hour for the 48 faculty mem bers. Sponsoring this affair were the girls in the department re presenting grades 9-12. The menu included breakfast fruit, tid bits, assorted sand wiches, cookies, coffee and co coa.
