Doctor Swift Addresses Rocky Mount Academy Of Medicine Six nationaUy known authori ties in health, physical education and recreation will participate in a National Research Institute and Workshop at North Carolina College here on March 22-26. According to Dr. A. B. Wea therford, chairman of the physi cal education and recreation de partment at North Carolina Col lege, the six consultants will be: Dr. J. Bertram Kessell, Consul tant, the American Association for Health, Physical Education and Recreation, Washington, D. C.; Dr. Leonard A. Larson, Di rector, Department of Health, Physical Education and Recrea- •tion. School of Education, New York University; Mr. James S. Stevens, Jr., Assistant Director, North Carolina Recreation Com mission, Raleigh, N.C.; Dr. Au gustus E. Miller, Director, The Physiological Laboratory, Sch. of Medicine, University of North Carolina, Chapel Hill, N. C.; Dr. Harold D. Meyer, Con sultant to the North Carolina Recreation Commission and Pro fessor of Recreation, University of North Carolina; and Mr. Ral ph J. Andrews, director. North Carolina Recreation Commis sion. Twelve topics have been sing led out for discussion. They are: (1) Gaps on Our Child Develop ment, (2) A Critique of the A- vailable Data in Cultural Educa tion of Negro Children With Suggestions for Improvement, (3) A Research Designed for Di mensions of Recreation in Con temporary Culture, (4) The use of Projective Technique in Re search in Child Development with Special Emphasis on the Blacky Test, the Child Appreci ation Test, and the Roschack Test, (5) Principles of Human Ecology Applied to Planning Research in Recreation, (6) So cial Values and Learning, (7) Guidance in the Education of Negroes, (8) Preparing Future Teachers in America, (9) Mea surement and Evaluation in Re search in Health, Physical Edu cation, and Recreation, (10) Physiological Research in Heal th, Physical Education, and Re creation, (11) Individual and Corrective Physical Education; and (12) Policy Statement of the American Association for Health, Physical Education, and Recreation. Proceeds from the sale of the potato chips to go to the Y- Teen Department of the YWCA and the clubs as a means to help promote the worthwhile activi ties of Y-Teen Clubs diuing the year. Proceeds realized will con stitute a portion of the funds necessary toward sending dele gates to the Y-Teen Area Sum mer Conference, aiding in spe cial programs and discussion group goals and financing many other deserving undertaldngs of the clubs and their members. Enthusiasm and keen competi tive spirit among the Y-Teen Clubs forecast a recordbreaking sales effort. Club and individual awards create added stimulation during the potato chip sale, Gordon Foods, Inc., will present a tro phy to the school in Durham where the most bags of potato chips were sold by the Y-Teen Clubs in that school on an aver age basis according to the num ber of members in the dub. An official Y-Teen bracelet will be awarded each girl sell ing 100 packages of chips. The bracelet will have attached the official Y-Teen insignia and a tiny replica of Gordon’s famous red truck trademark in enamel ed silver. In addition to competition be- prizes awarded based on compe tition between the clubs in each of the cities where Y-Teen Clubs are participating. A cash award will go the Y-Teen Department of the YWCA in the city in which the clubs have the high est average sales, and ’ another prize to the runner-up. A eaah prize will go to the individual club having the highest average sale of all competing club, and a second prize, to the runner-up. A beautiful wrist watch will be awarded the Y-Teen girl sell ing the most Potato Chips. The fundamental objectives of the Y-Teen program are to ac tivate a sense of conscientious citizenship, effect creative hu man relationship and to further spiritual growth.
