On the first week of the trip, they attended the Na tional Eklucatiqn Association which convened at Madison Sq Garden, New York City. During Uiis convention, they heard many of the nation’s outstand ing speakers and viewed the exhibits of the 48 states shown in the hotel New Yorker. Be sides attending sessions at the United Nations they visited Hyde Park, the home of F. D. Roosevelt. While in New York they were guests of Mrs. Geer’s sister, Miss Maranda Taylor and brother and sister-in-law, Mr. and' Mrs. Arthur Taylor. They also visited in Baltimore, Md. with Mr. Geers’ relatives, Mr. and Mrs. Walter Geer and Mr. and Mrs. Harry Oenkins. Mr. and Mrs. James H. Dixon of Park Lane have returned from New York City, where they visited their son, James Dixon, III. They also visited friends in Camden, N. J., At lantic City and Philadelphia, Pa. their mother, Mrs. Mary H. Shepard and other relatives and friends. Mr. and Mrs. Perry Fogle and mother, Mrs. Eva Fogle, and Mrs. Ellen Coles motored to Richmond, Va. last Sunday to attend the installation service of the Rev. E. C. Fogle who accep ted the pastorate of the Pilgrim Journey Church. Mr. and Mrs. Perry Fogle rendered musical numbers. Mrs. Marie Farrington Bran- dom of Brooklyn, N. Y. is in the city visiting her sister, Mrs. Gertrude Robinson on South Street. Mrs. Mildred Amey has re turned to her home on Elm Street after a two week’s vaca tion. She visited her daughter and son-in-law, Mr. and Mrs. Irving Winters, in Brooklyn, N. Y., and her sister and bro ther-in-law, Mr. and Mrs. Paul Johns of Jamaica, L. I. Mrs. Omega Livingston left Sunday for Springfield Ohio her former home, on a business trip. Mr. and Mrs. F. H. Rowland, Mrs. Roxie Davis, Mrs. Sybil Taylor and son Dickie, motored to Virginia last week. Their first stop was Lynchburg where they were joined by Simm Hol loway, Jr. From there they visi- ted the Peak nf- Otter—in-^ the Blue Ridge Mountains and they saw the Natural Bridge. The trip was enjoyable and interes ting. On Monday evening at 6:30 o’clock, Mrs. Mabel Mabry was hostess to the Azalea Garden Club at her home on Dunbar Street. Mrs. Julia Lucas opened the garden gate with a reading “Our Gardens,” bringing out the thought, that our lives are like gardens. After a short business meet ing, presided over by the presi dent, Mrs. Cotton, the hostess, served a tasty salad plate. Showing pictures of the new gardens thrown on the screen, were then enjoyed. Mr. Mabry was invited in to meet the ladies and to look at the films. He complimented the club members on the nice jobs of beautifying our city. He sug gested that it would be a grand idea to take these films to hos pitals that the shut-ins might enjoy looking at the beautiful homes and flower gardens. One visitor was present, Mrs. Naomi Thorpe. Home From Trip Abroad Mrs. Laura Bruce and lister Mrs. Omega Livingston and Miss Geneva Mebane have re turned home after an extended trip' of five weeks abroad. TheSiS ladies left Durham for New York, where they were joined by Mrs. Morine Dixon Jewett. 'They set sail on June 1, and had a wonderful voyage These are some of the places they visited: Portugal, French Morocco, Spain, Algiers, Venice, Paris, France; London, Eng land; Sicily, and Rome, Italy. They reported a very fine and interesting trip. The Golden Agers of Wall Town and W. D. Hill Recreation Center will also participate in helping make this an hour of good fellowship and spiritual entertainment. Mrs. Annie Als ton is president of the Pastors Aid Club which is one of the oldest clubs of St. Joseph Church. Little Miss Phillistine Bridges celebrated her fourth birthday Sunday afternoon July 11 at the home of her grandparents, Mr. and Mrs. Eli Brown, Sr. The honoree and her guests played in the large back yard until they were called in by the honoree's mother, Mrs. Charles Bridges, to be served punch, sandwiches, ice cream and cook ies. Mrs. Fannie Cozart Hostess To Lyon Park Rose Garden Mrs. Fannie Cozart was hos tess to the Lyon Park Rose Dr. and Mrs. Albert Manley of Spelman College, are spending a few days in the city, visiting Garden Club at her home on Moreland Ave. Monday night. The President, Mrs. Alice Jones left early in the meeting, to su pervise another program. The vice president, Mrs-. M. W. Webb, presided over the meet ing. Mrs. Victoria Joyner, secre tary, gave minutes and the com mittees on membership, touring, social and sunshine made their reports. The Program Commit tee Chairman, Mrs. N. J. Curry, presented to the club, one of our own members, Mrs. Mar garet Burnett, who made a rose arrangement. The arrangement showed previous study and thought by Mrs. Burnett. Mrs. Daisy Greene thanked the hostess for her generous hospitality. Mrs. N. J. Curry, of Rosedale Ave. will be the next hostess. Members present were Mes dames N. J. Curry, Grace Fra zier, M. W. Webb, Sophronia Greene, Josephine Hoskin, El- nora Smith, Pearl Brown, Effie Young, Alliner Randall, Mable Freeland, Daisy Greene, Mary Hardy, Elizabeth Bullock, Sadie Mebane, Victoria Joyner, Fan nie Cozart, Margaret Burnett, and Miss Alene Mebane. Miss Mary L. Stephens was a visitor. On July 5, Mrs. Lillian Mc Kay entertained members of the A and B Missionary Circle at her home on Dunstan Street. The meeting was held on the beautiful lawn of the McKays. The devotion was conducted by Mrs. Lucille Starks followed by Bible quotations by all begin ning with the letter M. Presi dent Lillian McKay presided over the business session. At this point, a surprise baby shower was given in the honor of Mrs. Elveta Monroe where a number of beautiful gifts were showered the little one. The group was very happy to have a new member join the club, Mrs. Carrie Saunders. At the social hour refresh ments of hot dogs, cake and ice crearn were served ^ the^ hos tess assisted by Mrs. Alease Mc- Kinnie. Members present were Mesdames, Lucille Starks, Mil dred Williams, Theresa Hall, Martha Armstrong, Magdalene Llewellyn, Queen E. Toon, Hat tie Geer, Elveta Monroe, Alease McKinnie, Mable Powell and Miss Mary Alston. The group adjourned to meet at the same place on July 12 with Mrs. Alease McKinnie serving as hostess. Mr. and Mrs. Edward Durham of Baltimore, Md., were recent guests of Mr. and Mrs. Herbert McKay of Dunstan Street. They were also accompanied by Mr. Durham's aunt, Mrs. Lula Shaw. Mrs; Durham is the former Miss Margaret Alston of this city and the neice of Mrs. McKay. They enjoyed their stay while here in the city. Mr. and Mrs. Willis Allison of Pine Street are spending a weeks vacation in Winston- Salem visiting relatives and friends. On Monday July 12, Mrs. Alease McKinnie entertained members of the A and B Missionary Circle at the home of Mrs. Lillian McKay on Dun stan Street. The devotion was conducted by Mrs. Magdalele Llewellyn followed by Bible quotations by all beginning with the letter M. President Lillian McKay presided over the busi ness session. Mrs. Mary Hester of Braggtown was guest and she brought encouraging remarks to the group. At this point the social hour followed where refreshments were served to the members: Mesdames Queen E. Toon, Lu- bertha Buie, Mildred Williams, Mary Taylor, Lucille Starks, Carrie Saunders, Theresa Hall, Mable Pawell and Miss Mary Alston. Vernon, New York and Miss Margaret Stephens were the dinner guests of Mrs. Vera Ciia- vis last Thursday. On Wednes day they were the breakfast guests of Mr. and Mrs. Silas Satterfield of Powe St. A GAY AFTERNOON— Girls Scouts and Brownies attending the Scarborough Day Camp on Fayetteville Road recently are shown en joying an afternoon of gay- iety in a children’s folk dance. Shown in the center are Dr. C. E. Boulware and Mrs. Lulu Booker, field executive of the Julia Warren Girl Scout or ganization. More than 50 Girl Scouts and other girls from the city attended the camp session which was held for two weeks. The closing was held at the camp with the older girls spending the night and participating in camp fire activities. This was the first year that the girls had the privilege of attending their own camp and enthusiasm is high for a better session next year. After enjoying games the table was spread and the food was served buffet style along with cold drinks to about 40 members and friends. Mrs. Mozella McLaughlin and children and Misses Mary L. and Margaret Stephens motor ed to Goldston, N. C. Sunday to visit Mrs. McLaughlin’s sisters who live there. A picnic dinner was enjoyed on their arrival. Mtss Mary Bumpass of Mt. Vernon, N. Y., was the guest of honor at a dinner party given by Mr. and Mrs. James E. Allen at their home on Thaxton Ave. Thursday night. Upon arrival the guest and friends enjoyed games and conversation. Barry Erwin has returned to Philadelphia after visiting his grandmother, Mrs. Mary Ervin on Pine Street. Fifty-one girls left the Y on Umstead Street Sunday at 3:30 via bus for camp Whispering Pines. Camp will be held from July 18 through July 31. Helen Davis, Priscilla Ha^’ris, Catherine Burnett and Evelyn Kennedy plan to leave for Camp Atwater next Saturday. Marsha Goodwin will fly with her mother.. Tl^is will be their first time at Atwater, while Amelia Thorpe, Patricia Spaul ding, Miriam Holrpes, Ethel Ma rie Stewart and Anne Hender son are returning for the second time. They left New York Sunday for a trip to Atlantic City where they expect to spend several days. David, Logan, and India Cooke flew to Nassau, Bahama wih Iheir arents.
