Carolina Association of Home
Economists here last Saturday at
North Carolina College.
Miss Adelaide Resass of West
Street High School, New Bern,
was elected president. She suc
ceeds Mrs. V. C. Moore, Berry
O’KeUy Sthool, Method.

Charlotte, vice-pressident; Mrs.
B. W, Alston, Henderson Insti

Mrs. Ellen Berry, Savannah

er. Some 75 state home eco
nomics teachers attended the
meeting.

of NCC’i Home Economics De
partment and her staff, were
hostesses for the meet.
“Closer Integration of Second
ary and College Home Econmics
Curriculum” was the theme of
the session which was held In
NCC’s Duke Auditorium. An
open house followed the main
meeting in NCC’s new Home
Economics Building.
A panel discussion on the con
ference theme was the highlight

Mrs. M. H. Johnson of Dur
ham's Whitted School said the
Resolutions Committee had ap
proved a plan whereby the as
sociation will have “revolving
meetings from college to college
in the state.” Announcement
will be made later regarding the
1955 meeting, Mrs. Johnson said.
The plans lor the meeting
were made by a program com
mittee that included Mrs. Moore;
Mrs. E. E. Berry, Savannah
School, Lenoir; Mrs. G. B.
Moore, Newbold Training School
Ft. Barnwell; and Miss Respass.

An address by L. Stacy Weav
er, superintendent of the Dur
ham City Schools, was the high
light of the annual installation
services of the Hillside Chapter
of the National Honor Society,
Friday, October 29. ’The exer
cises were held in the Hillside
High School Auditorium. A large
crowd was on hand for the oc
casion.
The, program, which was car
ried out under the direction of
H. M. Holmes, principal of the
Hillside School, began wlfii the
processional hymn, “O God Oiur
Help In Ages Past.” Dr. J. Neal
Hughley, North Carolina Col
lege instructor, delivered the in
vocation.
“Praise the Lord” was ren
dered by the Hillside Mixed
Chorus under the direction of
Miss T. H. Claggett, and Miss

White Barbers

Two white barbers, Salva
tore Greco and his brother Roc-
co, were $100. short this week,
when a Negro father won the
amount in damages from the
two who refused to cut his sixi
year old son’s hair. —
A First District Court jury
found the barbers' had discrimi
nated against young Ernest G.
Chadwick, Jr. last November
24th. However, a jury in the
same court had acquitted the
two of criminal violation of the
state Civil Rights Law.
