Mr. King Stephens of 106 Beamon Street, who was rushed to Lincoln Hospital Tuesday of last week left Tuesday, March 2, fully recovered. Sgt. Samuel T. Allen, Jr., of Bloomfield, N. J., now stationed in Oakland, California, was the week-end guest of his cousin, Mr. and Mrs. Moses R. Norwood of Cecil Street. Sgt. Allen was here attending the Tenth CIAA basketball tournament which was held at North Carolina Col lege. Sgt. Allen left the city Sun day mprning for Oakland, by the way of Bloomfield, N. J. Chapter One met Monday evening, February 7, at 4:00 p.m. with Mrs. Cora McCloud at her home 1309 N. Alston Ave., Mrs. P. F. Love, the president, presided. Mr. Fleming appeared in the Broadway production of Car men Jones and at Radio City with Milton Berle in “Spring in Brazil.” The Housewives League met at the home of Mrs. Clara Stroud on Club Boulevard. The White Rock Baptist Church Usher Board held their regular monthly meeting with Mr. and Mrs. Charles B. Noel, 414 Cecil Street. The highlight of the meeting is to prepare to raise funds for the Oxford Or phanage and Educational Fund. The members present were as follows: Raymond Williams, E. President, Lonnie Frazier Secretary, Odell Fields Flowers Shown In Dahlia Club Meet Miss Lillie Rogers oi 920 Fourth Street was hostess to the Dahlia Garden Club Tuesday night, February 22nd. A routine business session was held with Miss Rogers, the president, in charge. Each member of the Club" brought •''an original pot of flowers which was displayed on the dining room table. Mrs. Ruth McCowan instructed the members on how to grow Sweet Alysum in a spool. This was followed by a demonstration from Miss Rogers of making geraniums from nylon paper. Each person made several pe tals for the plant. The com pleted arrangement was pre sented to Mrs. Hannah Hinson as a gift for her new home on the Cook Road. It was suggest ed the group will make corsages at the next meeting. During the soc^l hour delicious ^refresh- ments were served by the hos tess to the following members: Miss Victoria Moore, Mrs. Gen eva Love, Mary Moore, Ruth McCowan, Lythia Brewer, An nie Mangum, Clara Stroud, Lil lie Vickers, Hannah Hinson, Callie Daye, Louise Thompson. Founding Of Sorority Celebrated Alpha Zeta Chapter of Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority celebra ted the founding of the Sorority with a closed banquet, which was held at the Algonquin Tennis Club on ' Saturday, Feb. 19th. Places were laid, four at a table, with place cards in the form of ceramic ash trays, in the sorority colors of salmon pink and apple green. The menu was well prepared and well served. Adele'^and Gloria McLaugh lin, with their parents, Mr. and Mrs. James McLaughlin, spent the week end in Morehead City, North Carolina, as the guests of Mr. and Mrs. Joseph Hill. They saw much of the damage done by Hazel on the coast. They also visited the ' State Park at Fort Blacon. This Fort was built in the years 1826-1834, a period of eight years, by three hundred nfen. The gun emplace ments overlook a deep moat, and under the fort are water- lilled dungeons. During the War Between the States, Union for- -c^ destroyed this eight-year work of 300 men in a matter of days. The Fort was later re stored and a state park created there. Hrs. P.
