The Harrises w«re visiting Mr^ and Mrs. E. W. Green. Mr. Green is man ager of the North Carolina Mu tual Life Insurance Company of Roanoke. The Bullocks visited his niece and family, Mr. and Mrs. Abraham Mitchell. They reported a very pleasant trip. They went on a sight-seeing tour, also visited National Bridge, Virginia; one of the seven great wonders of the world. BUss Sarah Harriet Amey, of Elm Street has returned home from New York, where she ■pent two weeks visiting her sis ter and brother-in-law, Mr. and Irvin Winters who are the proud parents of another son- Charles Anthony, bom April 7, 1955. Mrs. Nettie Johnson of Du pree Street is a patient at Lin coln Hospital. Mrs. Celeste Smith of Um- stead Street motored to So. Boston, Virginia last Thursday and spent the week-end with her sister and family. Dr. and Mrs. C. E. Boulware of 405 Lawson Street have as their house guest, Mrs. Boul- ware’s sister, Mrs. Julia B. Stin son of Charlotte, North Caro lina and Cleveland, Ohio; also a niece, Mrs. Palmer L. Boyd of Cleveland, Ohio. Mr. and Mrs. W. J, Kennedy, Jr., of Fayetteville Street have returned home after a very very pleasant visit in Akron, Ohio with Mr. Kennedy’s uncle and aunt. Mrs. Margaret Kennedy Goodwin of Fayetteville Street has returned home from Lin coin Hospital where she was a patient for more than a week. Mrs. Josie Rich of Linwood Avenue is a patient at Lincoln Hospital. Mrs. Cora L. Brown Hpatess The Friendly Daughters - Club of St. Joseph AME Church met Tuesday night with Mrs. Cora L. Brown, hostess, in the Edu cational Building of the church. The president, Mrs. Alma Hughes, presided. The devotional message was brought t>y Mrs. Rosa Farrar, Each member gave a Bible verse beginning with the letter ‘;C.” Refreshments were served by the hostess. Other members present were Mesdames, De- lores McCall, Annit K. Daye, Mary Campbell, 4.n^a Black, Elizabeth Johnson, Margaret Tucker, Jessie McAdam, Laura O’Neal. Cosmetology Club Meets Miss Hazel McKoy was hos tess to the Cosmetologys Club, Chapter Nine on Mofaday night, April 18th at her home on Mat thews Street. The president, Mrs. Fidelia Brooks, presided over the busi ness session. Mrs. DeShazor Jackson, an honorary member, was present and gave some in spiring remarks. She also pre sented the club with a mem bership card, from the “Durr ham Business and Professional Chain.” A tasty menu was served by the hostess. Members attendmg were Mesdames lola Goss, Mit chell, .Evvie Lou Ellison, Thel ma Hill, Julia Perry, Josephine Perry, Lennie Burton, Pecola Jones, Willie E. Watkins, Mere- line Johnson, Margaret Harris, Misses Victoria Moore, Plassie Brown, Montez Bates. . The next 'meeting will be with Mrs. Mozel Mitchell on Massey Avenue. Mr*. £va Mocfc Entertains On Wednesday evening, April 13th, the C.I.C. Club of St. Joseph AME Church met with Mrs. Eva Mock at her home in the DeShazor’s Btiilding, 809 Fayetteville Street. The meeting was opened with devotions led by the president, Mrs. Mabel Watson. A very im pressive meeting was held and enjoyed by all. The hostesses served a nice salad course to the following members: Mes dames Eva Plummer, Annie McDade, Theodosia Robinson, Mabel Davis, Evelyn Rogers, Maybel McNeil, George Whit- ted, Lillie MsDade, Sallie War ren, Gladys Dawkins, Minnie Moses, and Miss Lillian Burton. The 6W Social Club Members of the 6W Social Club had a jolly time on Mon day evening when they were entertained by Mrs. Pearl Spearman at her apartment, 15-D McDougald Terrace. De lightful refreshments were ser ved to the following members: Mesdames Lula Mae Royal, Elizabeth Edwards, Lena Pearce, Marie Penny, Matilda Barbee, Annie Mitchell and Miss Kathryn Pierce. On Sunday, April 17, forty of more members of District 10 of White Rock Baptist Church met at the home of Mr. and Mrs. W. T. Xeach on Fayetteville Street for their monthly meeting and to honor Mr. and Mrs. Leach on their 50th Anniversary. The meeting was opened by the pre sident, Mrs. L. B. Farrington. Rev. M. M. Fisher, pastor of White Rock was present and spoge'on “The Creattiveness of Love.” Miss Octavia Tedder sang "Because” and there were several beautiful poems recited which fitted the occasion in cluding an original poem by Mrs. L. E. Hubbard. The mem bers of the chorus also rendered several selections. Mr. J. C. Hubbard presented to Mr. and Mrs. Leach a beauti ful gift from District 10. After refreshments were served everyone wished Mr. and Mrs. Leach many more happy years. Mrs. Hattie Meadows, life time friend, was present and assisted the hostess. The Mount Vernon Baptist Church Felowship observed Pastor Browne’s birthday Sun day, April 17, after the evening worship service in the "Fellow ship Hall,” which wu beauti fully decorated. Expressions of appreciation were made. Do nations from organizations, and gifts were presented. Happy Birthday was sung by 4^e group. The Birthday Party was sponsored by the Deacons and Trustees of the church. Punch, sandwiches, and accompani ments were served by the Social Committee of which Mrs. Sudie Gaither is chairman. Words of than^ and appre ciation were exiiressed by Pas tor Browne. White Rock Uiher Board Meets The Usher Board of White Rock Baptist Church met Sat. April 23, at the home of Mr. and Mrs. William Forte, 1612 Merrick Street. Devotions were led by Louise Jones. Vice-Presi dent, Willie Hannah presided over the meeting. Minutes of the last meeting were read and approved. All members were thanked for the fine contribu tions they gave to the Oxford Orphanage. One new member was welcomed to the board, Mr. Bumice Ray, Jr. of Dun- stan Street. All visitors were welcomed. Members attending were Lon nie Frazier, WiUle Hannah, C B. Noel, Jr., Odell Fields, Jo seph Hargraves, Raymond mond Williams, C. B. Noel, Sr., Louis Jones, Louis Erving, D. E. Watson, ),Bumice Ray, Jr., William Forte. ' Refreshments were served. The Host was thanked by Lewis Jones. The meeting closed with the watch word. Lonnie Fra zier, president—Odell Fields— Secretary. The program rendered last Sunday night at the St. Joseph AME Church by the "Marian Music Studio,” under the di rection of Mrs. Marian Brown Warren was well received by a large appreciated audience. Special numbers were, an or gan and piano selection by Mrs. Joseph Flemmings of the N. C. College and Mrs. Warren. A girl’s quartet from the Gethsemane Baptist Church and Mrs. Warren gave a dramatic reading “Nobody’s Child,” done in costume. Guest soloist was Mrs. Mabel Mabry, who sang- I’d Rather Have Jesus Than Anything.” Remarks by the pastor, the Rev. D. A. Johnston.
