Richard Dunlap, Jr., of New York City and his aunt and uncle, Mr. and Mrs. Archibald Glover of Brooklyn, N. Y. ar rived in Durham last week to be at the bedside of their father and brother, Richard Dunlap, Dr. and Mrs. Emir Duany of New York City motored to Dur ham last Thursday and will spend a week or ten days visit ing her parents, Mr. and Mrs. J. F. Williams, 1612 Fayetteville Street. Mrs. Duany is the for mer Miss Margaret Williams. Mrs. Josie Rich is a patient at Lincoln Hospital. Mr. and Mrs. C. C. Smith Jr., of Umstead Sreet motored to Charlotte on Thursday, May 19, to attend the dinner and recep tion given in honor of Mr. A. E. Spears, Sr., retiring manager of the Charlotte District of the North Carolina Mutual Life Insurance Company. The Psi Tau Mu Chapler of the Alpha Chi Pi Omega So rority met at the home of Soror Mable Burnette, 1006 Lynch' burg Street. The meeting was called to order by the Basileus. Aftor a brief business gessiOQ, a report was given of the conven tion convening at San Antonio, Texas, and Mexico City. During the social hour we were served a delicious repast by the hos- teM. Annie Alston Circle of the Co venant Presbyterian Church on Lincoln Street, presented Char les J. Brown, Ceramics Artist, bom in Charlotte 21 years ago. His beautiful work astonished the audience—they were really things of beauty. Mrs. Almeda C. Spears, presi' dent of the Circle, was Mis tress of Ceremonies, and pre sented the artist. Mr. Brown had samples of all kinds of beautiful designs of his work, such as ash trays, lamps—all shades and sizes, flower pots and serving trays. These may be ordered by contacting Mrs. A. £. Spears Jr., A-2 Park Lane, Durham. Punch, sand wiches and accompaniments were served. The refreshment table was covered with a white table cloth and held a .center piece of coloi^ul Gladioli. Mrs. J. W. Smith Jr., and Miss Myr tle Taylor, presided at the punch bowl. Mrs. Barbara Avant, and Mrs. Lucille Coon, were Co- Chairmen of the Refreshment Committee. Mrs. Ann W. May er, made the beautiful floral ar rangements used throughout the auditorium, and joined with Mrs. Marjorie Smith and Mrs. Zola Womble as members of the Steering Committee. "Annie Alston” members were active throughout the au ditorium, graciously greeting and serving their guests, A very pleasant evening was enjoyed Joy all present. The Senior Missionary Cir cle of the Union Baptist Church on Roxboro Street will present a special musical and inspira tional program on Sunday, May 29 at 3 o’clock. Mrs. Cotton had as guests two of her sisters of Chapel, Hill, Mrs. Geneva Nichols and Mrs. Edna Chavis, and her neice, Mrs. Effie Jones and Mrs. Wil ma Covington. We had as our guest speaker, Mrs. Julia Harris, an Instructor of English at. NCC. We shall long remember the beautiful and Impressive talk she gave us on “Dawn” and the “receipt.” At 10:30 we motored to Chapel Hill to worship at the First Baptist Church, Rev. J. R. Manley, Pastor. After the ser mon we were served a delicious dinner at the home of Mrs. Johnson, 607 Church Street. The Hostesses were Sorors, Marjorie Page and Gertrude Flack. Father John Risacher enter tained the children of the Holy Cross Mission and their friends with a party on the church grounds on Wednesday, May 17. The party is given annually by Father Risacher. The guests were entertained with games and other activities. In one game an article was hidden and the children given twenty minutes to find-it. At the end of that time no child had found it, and a prize was given to the child standing nearest it. This prize, $1.00, was won by Bar bara McCaU. A box of candy was raffled off.
