W. C. Cooper, 4-H Club specialist with the A&T College Extension Serivice, who is in charge of the drive, stated this weelc that more than $37,000 has already been raised but a like amount is still required to complete the project, on which construction has already begun. The present resources were con tributed, primarily, by 4-H Club boys and girls and their parents. The camp facilities will in clude accommodations for 150 persons per week or approxi mately 1,800 during a camping season. Among the proposed •tmcturw dining and rec reation building, administration building, bath houses for boys and girls and 8 cabins, each ac- conmiodating 18 persons. The 3 mile beach front affords ade quate bathing and swimming facilities. The current drive concludes with a “4-H Club Camp Day” on May 28. Uniformed club mem bers and their leaders will be soliciting funds all during the day in th« 52 counties where Negro Extension work is con ducted. The reports will b« call ed and wired in after 6:00 P. M., to the state headquarters here at A&T College. The drive has received state wide endorsement. State Grange Master, Harry B. Caldwell, Greensboro, stated this week. “The Negro 4-H Club mem bers, their parents and leaders are to be commended for the exccellent beginning. Continu ed support of this project is im perative to assure success of this urgently needed camp.” R. Flake Shaw, also of Greensboro and executive vice president of the North Carolina Farm Bureau Federation, stated that the objectives of the 4-H Club camp program are identi cal with those of the Farm Bur eau and urged the entire mem bership of his organization to support it. The project has also received the full, endorsement of the county commissioners in the 52 counties and the sanction of L. Y. Ballentine, Raleigh, state commissioner of agriciflture who stated that the camp will fill a long telt need in the State’s rural youth program. Contributions should be made to “The 4H Club Foundation of North Carolina, Inc.” and turned over to the local covmty representatives or mailed di rectly to; Secretary, 4-H Club Foundation, A&T College, Greensboro.
