You can go to the Fourth Na tional Jamboree at Valley Forge if you meet these requirements: 1. You are a registered Explor er or a Boy Scout at leaeit 12 years of age as of January 1, 1957. 2. You are an Explorer or a Second Class Scout or higher when the Jamboree opens. 3. You are certified by your local coimcil jamboree committee. 4. You present an official medi cal examination certificate. The national council fee, in cluding food and expenses dur ing the period of the jamboree camp will be $50.00. In ad dition, local council fees for the pre-jamboree camp, transporta tion, sight-seeing, and other expenses will an additional $75.00, making a total of $125.00. This will be the fee from our local council, Icconee- chee. We have had boys from Dur ham to attend all the National Jamborees. One boy from Dur ham attended the Inter-National Jamboree in France. Scouts from Durham attended in Wash ington, D. C. in 1037. In Valley Forge 1950, California 1953, and at Valley Forge 1957, we hope. On our trip to Valley Forge next year, we will spend a day and night in Washington, D. C. and other stops along the way. $10.00 register fees should be in our office as soon as possible for your boy to be sure of a space. You know what happens when you wait. We have only so many spaces for the whole Council. First come, first served. The jamboree at Valley Forge is a city of 50,000 under canvas with almost everything a regu lar city has-except schools! The jamboree has its ow« policf and fire departments, water works, hospitals, railroad stations, bus and truck lines, radio and tele vision studios, newspaper, bank, postoffice, telephone exchange, super markets, theaters and places of worship. National, state, and local health and protective agencies cooperate in giving the jambo ree a health and safety record better than that of the average city of 50,000. Doctors from home areas travel and live with each section. Each camper’s physical condition/is checked at home upon arrival at the jambo ree. Come on leaders, we need you too. Sign up for jamboree lea dership. This will be great. Next week. Henry. The band later did duty at Pearl Harbor in Hawaii. Diir- ham members in this outfit were: Bennie Laldn, Robert Tate, Robert Sellars, Julian Jor dan, Willie C. Judkins, and W. H. Cole, Jr. Mid-YearNAACP Membership Up Over 50 Per Cent NEW YORK Challenged by increasingly repressive measures in certain southern states, local branches of the National Association for the Advancement of Colored People redoubled their efforts and enrolled 216,446 members in the first six months of the year, an increase of 50 per cent over the 144,277 enrolled from January through June of 1955, Miss Lucille Black, NAACP membership secretary, reported today. With such large cities as Chi cago, Cleveland, Baltimore, Houston, Camden (N.J.), and Milwaukee as well as many smaller cities scheduled to con duct their annual membership drives in the fall, the prospect of exceeding the goal of 400,000 members for 1956 is “very bright,” Miss Black said. 8ATUBDAT.
