Mrs. Atwater, the wife of the late Reverend Alex At water, is formerly from Dur ham. Mrs. Bettie Horton of 814 Ma plewood Ave., who has been ill is much improved. Home From Camp Mrs. Virginia Williams of Cornell Street has returned to the city after spending nearly three months at Camp Norfleet, “Allenwood Inn Burlington, Vermont" on Lake Champlain During her stay she visited the Statue of Liberty, Battery Park overlooking I>ake Champlain, Marble Island, First College Bldg. 1801 University of Ver mont, Mansfield Aerial Chair Lift to 4390 feet. Summit and other interesting places. and family enjoyed the evening talking over old times and look ing at Television. Everyone had an enjoyable evening. Sorority Meeting The Nu Theta Sigma Chapter of Alpha Chi Pi Omega Sorority met with Mrs. Lossie Coleman at her home on Ramsey St., Sun day September 9, at 5:00 P.M. This was the first Fall meeting. Everyone was happy to greet each other. The president, Mrs. Beatrice F. Moss presided over the business session. Mr*. Ejfie Robinson Entertain* The Pearsontown Community Club met at the home of Mrs. Effie Lee Roberson Monday night, September 3, on Martha Street. Blrs. Rosa Gilchrist, pre sident, presided over the meet' ing. Refreshments were served to the following members: Mes- dames Rosa Gilchrist, Geneva Cheek, Ada Meeks, Jessie Moore, Mrs. Roda Prince, Grace Williams, Dora Green and Mrs Mary Taylor. Pom' pey of Dupree Street, left Mon' day, September 17 for the Medi cal College of Virginia in Rich mond, Va., where she is pur suing her practice in Dietetics. . Entertains Garden Ctub Mrs. Catherine M. Shaw was hostess to Lyon Park Garden Club on Monday evening Sep tember 10, at the Algonquin Club House on Fayetteville St. The Garden Gate was opened by Mrs. Elnora Smith. The vice- president presided over the business session. Preparations for lawns was discussed, follow ed by a delicious repast served by the hostess. Members present were: Mesdames Elnora Smith, Helen M. McClain, Fannie Tapp, Elizabeth Means, Pearl Brown, V. Vaulk, A. B. Green, Mar garet Burnett. Josephine Hos- kin, Sophronia Green, Lossie Foushee, Sadie Mebane, Alice Jones, Mable Freeland, Be^e Thompson, Beatrice Roberson, Fannie Cozart, Ruth Mears, N. J. Curry, Misses Mary L. Ste phens and Allene Mebane. A surprise birthday dinner was given Saturday evening September 15 at 6 o’clock in honor of Mrs. Zenobia Harden and Wilbert Holloway by their mother Mrs. Elsie Holloway. The house was beautifully deco rated with an arrangement of Fall flowers. Miss Evans, a June graduate of North Carolina College, ma joring in Sociology, is the neice of Mrs. L. M. Norwood of Dur ham. Returns To Michigan Wanda and Lenn Haywood Curtis, who spent the summer in Durham with .their grandpa rents, Mr. and Mrs. J. C. Curtis of Mason Street, have returned to their home in Detroit, Mich. They were accompanied home by their grandmother, Mrs. Ki- tola Curtii, who visits with her •on and family Mr. and Mrs. L H. Curtis, Sr. Hurt On City Bus Mrs. Mabel Jones of Walton Avenue, who was hurt on the bus has returned to her home from Lincoln Hospital where she received treatments for two weeks. Home Again Mrs. Hessie Mitchell of Fay etteville St., who was a patient at Lincoln Hospital for a week is now recuperating at home. Reception Honors Newlyveds The home of Mrs. Nell G Wilson of Dupree Street was the scene of an Informal reception Saturday, Sept. 8, honoring Mr. and Mrs. Ezra Lomax Wilson oC Jamaica, N. Y. who were re cently wed. The bride is the former Miss Sandra Bradby of Bronx, N. Y. The house was beautifully decorated with cut flowers. Pink and green were the colors used in decorating. Misses Betty Jo Goodloc and Willie Jean Green assisted at the punch bowl. Approximately forty guests were invited to greet the bride arid groom, and many useful gifts were presented them. Out-of-town guests included Mr. and Mrs. Alton Bradby of New York, parents of the bride, and Mrs. Gladys Short and Mrs Vera Smith, both of New York, After an enjoyable stay In Durham, the bride and groom returned to Jamaica where they are making their home. Mrs. Carlotta Holmes has re turned to Durham from a Sum mer School-vacation trip. She reports an interesting and chal lenging experience at the Uni versity of Southern California. One of the expert hair stylists who will display her craftsman ship at a two day beauty show and demonstration scheduled in Durham on Monday and Tues day is Mrs. Estelle Dennis, na tionally known hair stylist and supervising demonstrator for Adolph’s Beauty products of Mrs. DenniSj a Philadelphian, operates a 45 chair salon in that city. Some 800 hair dressers from the state' are expected to attend the show, sponsored by the Durham wholesale beauty and barber supply firm of Big- gers and Turner.
