Area Girl Scouts Announce Dates For Annual Cookie Sale The Bright Leal Girl Scout Council of North Caolina, Inc., which Includes Durham, Or Oran^, Oranville, Vance and Warren Countiet will hold Its annual Girl Scout Cookie sale beginning Thursday, January 24, through February 4. 192 troop* with membenhip numbering 2,064 will partici pate in the sale. An estimated goal of 4S,000 boxes has been Mt, with a profit of $8,000.00 Bach box will sell for 40 cents ■ box, of which two cents will go to individual troops making the sale and sixteen cents will be used for the Scout campinf program to subsidize day camps and established camps, year- round troop camping, camping equipment, “Campenhips” and for development of the estab lished camp at Kerr Lake. There are three kinds of cookiea offered for sale this year: Chocolate and VaniUa lliin Mint and Sa vannahs, a new oatmeal cookie with peanut butter filling. Mrs. P. E. Appointment Revealed Of Head Of North Carolina College Unit Florida A&M Band Plays In inaugural Rile TALX.AHASSEE, Fla. “A historic first” occured here jast Tuesday when the 132- piece Florida A and M Univer sity band participated in the pre-inaugural concert prior to the inauguration of the Honor able LeRoy Collins as Govenor. More than 10,000 persons in attendance at th6 in|iuguration gave a thunderous ovation when the band, under the direction of Dr. William P. Foster, played its last selection. The occasion also marked tiie first time that the bands from Florida’s three state-supported institutions of higher leaming- A and M, Florida State Univer sity and the University of Fla., had performed on the same pro gram. The three bands were seated in fronf of the Supreme Court Building facing east towards the Capitol BuUding, “site” of the inaugural ceremonies. The A and M band was in the cen ter, flanked on the left by the University of Florida band, and on the right by the FSU band. Arkansas AMEZ Pastor Moved To New Orleans OKLAHOMA CITY, Okla. Bishop C. C. Coleman an nounced recently tliat Rev. A. W. Ricics, wiio pastored St. Paul AME Zion Church, Little Rock, Ark., for 12 years, has been ap- jP9|inted to Petty’s Chapel Church, New Orleans, La. The Rev. Ricks is said to have, built a new chUrch at Little Rock and to have made a big contribution to both the re ligious and civic life of the city. He carries to New Orleans a wealth of experience. He pas tored in GainsvlUe, FIs., fi tour years before going to 1 Miss Mary Vivian Myhand has been named head of the Nursery School in North Caro lina College's Department of Home Economics, effective at the start of the second semester on February 2. Announcements of the ap- pomtment was made by Presi dent Alfonso Elder and Dean ueorge T. Kyle. Miss Myhand succeeds the former Miss Paula Bickham Who resigned last summer. In terim supervision of the school iias been under the direction of Miss Mary Jane Harris, a staff member in home economics. A native of Opelika, Ala bama, Miss Myliand received the B.S. degree at Tuskegee in- stitute where she also engaged in additional graduate study. In addition, she has been studying child development and psy chology at the University of Miciiigan ior the past two years. Prior to joining NCC’s staff, Miss Myliand taught at lASU in East Lansing, Michigan and at Arkansas A and M University in Pine Bluff, Arkansas.
