Beautiful spring flonr- ers peeping here and there in the cozy home, made a nic«| welcome to guests and mem bers. Various games were the ma-i ]or activity for the afternoon as a result Mrs. Reba Davis won; first club prize, Mrs. Olivia Coles won second prize, Mrs. Jocelyn Stevens was the winner of a floating prize while Mrs.^ Carrlfe Deans, and Mrs. Eunice Newton, special guests of the afternoon, were presented to- ken*. Other members present were Mesdames tiola Riddick, Selena Wheeler, Frances Schooler, Alice Farrison, Emm^ Randolph, Thelma Perry, Fan nie Robinson. A delicious repast was served. Oakwood Park Beantifiers The Oakwood Park Beautifi- en held their regular meeting on Monday evening, January 28, at the hoqie of Mrs. Ocia Brown of Pilot Street. The meeting con sisted of reports from various conunittees and plans for the first anniversary of the club which is to be held the fourth Sunday in February. Daughters Of Dorcas Meet Inclement weather did not stop ttie daughters of Dorcas Club which met on Thursday evening, January 31 at the home of Mrs. Asa T. Spaulding, A large number of memi>ers were present. Mrs. Spaulding, the guest speaker, recently returned from India, gave an enlightening de scription of that country. She wore a dress made in India. Af ter this talk many questions were asked and answered. Other guests present were Mrs. Carrie Dean, Mrs. Dorothy McDougald and her sister, Mrs. Edna Bullock of Hackensack, N. J. Mrs. Spaulding was assisted by her daughter, SArs. Marttia S. Dooms and granddaughter. Miss Ethei Marie Stewart, who is home on Spring vacation. “Ote- lia”, Mrs. Spaulding's other daughter, who has recently re turned from incoln Hospital, sent a note of regret of her ab sence. The program l>egan with the grand march by the group. The Two to five year old group, dressed as lions, panda tjears, bunny rabbits, dogs and ele- pliants presented Mictiael Keck and tiis famous trained animals., The six to nine year old group featured the Health Circus with Bruce Llghtner acting as ring leader. The audience was enter tained ^th the health clown, the beautiful lady dance,r the crooked nUm, the straight man, ttie fresh air giant, the lion, the ttger and the girl witti thei strong teeth. The ten to twelve year olds presented clowns doing; acro batic student, the rockettes—a chorus of dancing girls and a, tight rope pantomine. T%e tera-age group danced ttie Swanee Hop, the Virginia^ Reel and presented tlie Tapi>er8, Joke Time and sang Dixie. Guest artists on the program were the majorettes of Ligon; High School and acrobats from Shaw University. The Ligon High School Band furnished the music. The circus closed by singing “Give To Polio,” with the group and the audience joining in. The net proceeds realized, from the program were |500.00. Ttie sum of $400.00 wasfiven to the National Foundation for ln- fantile Paralysis, $50.00 was donated to ttie WalEe Countyt Mental Hygiene Clinic and $50., will be divided t>etween the nursery schools of ttie city. Mrs. Thelma M. Keck is pre sident of the organization. Flower Club Hold Meeting At Mrs. Mangum's The Dulilia Gardeners met at the ftoAe of Gardener Axmle Mangum on Fifth Street in Dur ham recently. The gardener's answered the roll call by a name of a flower for each month. Hie mnnbers present were Blrs. Mary Moore, Mrs. Letliia Brewer, Miss Lillie Rogers, Mrs. Annie Mangum, and Mis. Ruth N.
